Classic Spyro definitely has it's dark themes to it.

Like when the Sorceress wanted to rip off the wings of the baby dragons, basically killing them for magic, ouch, evil.

Actually, she doesn't have to kill them, she just really hates dragons.
The games can get pretty dark.

I hope they get to keep a little bit of the "dark" feeling that they had. Not too much, like with darkSpyro in LoS, but just a bit of subtlety here and there.

The creepy bee enemies in Spooky Swamp in Spyro 3 always freaked me out, those’ll be disturbing in hq too

Yeah true, both Buzz and Spike have a lot of potential to be scary, and I hope they go for it.

I hope they make Scorch (the boss in YotD not the level in RR/GtG) look more like the "monster to end all monsters" he's supposed to be.

How about those monsters in Jacques (as well as Jacques himself) or the giant beasts in Alpine Ridge? I can’t imagine how they would look in HD.

I thought they were beetles. Especially because Spyro calls them bugs. Either way, I hope they won't be too creepy.

Also, I forgot all about the trees in Misty Bog and the Bushes in Fracture Hills.

Oh and there's also the metal sharks in Aquaria Towers.

The monster to end all monsters and the half decayed whale/leviathan you fight him in will be pretty intense to see I think.

I'm looking forward to Spike and Scorch's fights the most, Spike because that was so flipping difficult and Scorch was the scariest to me. :')

I actually think most of the infamous enemies that terrified us as kids (for me, the metal spiders in Spyro 1 were the worst) won't look as scary because the abstract PS1 models were why they were scary.

In the remake, they will likely be way more cartoony and easier to digest because of the higher quality models and they will also be way more animated.

I think the enemies will look dopier than more terrifying. The jagged polygons that were the best you could expect then are the polar opposite to what the developers are going for in my opinion. I'd expect them to possibly have square, crooked teeth as a jab at how scary they were back then.

Besides, I think older models will almost always be more horrifying than what modern devs can make, or recreate. As art styles become more complex, there's more cracks in their design. It's like how the more elaborate a plan is the more likely it is to fail to the slightest thing. Look at Silent Hill: the limitations of the PS1 helped that game with its environment; the low render distance practically made Silent Hill's fog iconic. Its remaster (which to be fair to Spyro, was supposed to be just that and not a total overhaul) ruined the horror effects because the PS2 had better hardware and in turn got rid of the fog. It fixed a problem that made the game better. I say the same of old horror movies; it's not just nostalgia, there's practicality in the limitations of what was available.

That said, I'm interested not only in their design but how they're balanced. Considering they've changed the most apparent thing about the game, subtle changes to the boss mechanics and reaction times would be welcome.

That trolley one is not even the hardest mini game imo. Like its nothing compared to half of YOTD's mini games.

The yeti boxing will be interesting.... That mini game was what prevented me from 100% at one point :')

This might not be the case in the Dream Weaver world. Higher resolution graphics could make it even trippier.

Monster Marsh and Golden Desert win for me because Telescope Towers has WAY too many unskippable cutscenes with worst character in the series Headwick, but it's really up there.

Happy to see that the design of Goons and Toasty seem to take after some aesthetics from Trap Team and sort of Imaginators. It's really interesting when levels have tons of detail that don't need to be *actually* detailed. Those flat stiches on Toasty's robe don't have to pop out to make it look worn and interesting.

Headwick is skippable there. But why not make him skippable on Telescope Towers too? *shrug*

The sheep in the screenshots look almost exactly like Skylanders' actually, Toasty's real form has his own design.

I haven't actually seen the sheep clearly, but I mostly noticed it on Toasty.

Also you can skip Headwick? I thought you needed to get a key from him.

They're in the corner. They have tails and fancier textures, but still big balls of wool.

You can skip his dialogue, so he can barely get a word in. Telescope Towers gives you the whooole tutorial on how the puzzles work, and I think he's also unskippable before Dreamcatcher.
