Wow, very interesting. I love to see that production histories. But, as much as I like the Skymmibos, I don't want to see more in future games. It's unfair to the PlayStation and XBox players.

So Kirby, princess peach and Starfox were also considered. I would love to see Pit in skylands someday.

They even had problems coming up with dark variants because they thought Nintendo would't have liked Donkey Kong's fur being black.

I have a wonderful idea.
How about, for the next game, you stop focusing on exclusive features and "over-the-top super ultra mega hyper giga galactic" gimmicks and start putting all your effort in making a new and awesome game (like SuperChargers promises to be) with all new characters which don't belong to any big company?

They said no "to" Mario heroes, they said "no" to Fox and they said "no" to Kirby.

I wish this person had sited his references or displayed some proof to backup what he said. He has prototype images which probably means what he is saying is true but there was too much juicy insider info released in that article. Others had asked similar questions but never got close to this much detail.

Also I swore that another article had said that no character was really off limits and they selected DK and Bowser for reasons. So I'm really curious to who leaked all this info to the reporter as it probably wasn't Bala or anyone we typically hear from...

HDRoom always has legit information from the devs since they interview them regularly; it's our source for the Spyro's Kingdom era of development even.
The reasons they selected DK and Bowser is because they're the dev team's favorite characters,Bowser is Guha's specifically.

Adding here, but Nintendo (Reggie Fils-Aime or Shigeru Miyamoto, can't remember) said that they selected Bowser and DK because they fell more like "creatures" or "monsters", that Nintendo thinks that fits better in the Skylanders character style.

I was wondering why I never heard of this website before. I'm not into production news so I wouldn't know them from Adam but if you say they got cred then I'll believe what's said there.

Reading and assuming from the article, Peach was probably their first choice...Xena-fied Peach would have been too awesome for any toy. But that's totally not within her character so I'm surprised they even considered it.

I really would have loved to have been a fly on the wall for all that Nintendo discussions and compromising. This article makes out that VV was totally scared of Nintendo (something I've noticed mentioned several times before.)

Yeah they look much more like scared henchmen rather than loyal and devote fans.

I understand VV. They look scared because Nintendo is a very conservative company, and don't like to change his characters. Only now they're opening their minds to license their characters. VV is lucky to make changes that Nintendo accepts.

I hope it wasn't a info leak take down. I didn't have enough time to digest the info in the article yet. I honestly thought the article (as well as the image leaks) was timed to generate more buzz and to take some interest away from Infinity this week.

Anyway, I think a banana element would have made me quit Skylanders for good. That's not even believable as an elemental. Didn't they mention that they had another one in mind as well? I'm guessing a turtle shell for Bowser?

Kinda ironic since I jokinly talked about the Banana element and even made a mock symbol for it when they were revealed. But no,the idea is as stupid as it gets and as biased as it gets. Not only Life already is about fruit, it's like making a Harpoon element because Gill Grunt is too popular for his own group - dumb and only going to make him more popular.

If I were in them and Nintendo constantly kept saying "no you can't use him" or "mmmmh... He should look differently" I would have given them an handshake and went away.

It's my game and my rules.
Nintendo needs to adapt not the opposite.

I laughed when I saw your idea... But I nearly cried when I read the article.
They should have never considered it an option and I sincerely hope they won't come up with unneeded Elements for Skylanders 7, like Poison, Ice or Sand.

ANY company is going to be defensive over their properties. V.V. would've had the same problem if they wanted their guest stars from Sony, or Disney, or even Microsoft. Partly because these characters have been around way before Skylanders. They wanted to try something different, and yeah, it didn't work out in the best possible way. But news flash: No decision ever is.

But hey, what do I know? I guess being able to look past problems like this makes me stupid.

But man, Star Fox would actually make a lot more sense; you'd think that eventually their technology would find their way into the center of the universe, you could even have an actual backstory where they stumble into Skylands and decide to help around while they're there.

And also, that's a good point. Star Fox is a Nintendo franchise whose gameplay relies solely around dogfights. An Arwing could've totally worked as a vehicle in the game.

Though I guess Donkey Kong and Bowser also kind of make sense, 'cause Mario Kart, y'know.

Star Fox would have made a nice character but maybe he's a little too futuristic for the Skylands.
I know we do have advanced techonogies but... Not to that point.

Bowser and Donkey Kong were good choices because they fit both the themes of the game and the series in general.

Oh man I would love a Star Fox amiibo alt. Too bad they chose DK over him.

It makes me wonder what element they would be. Peach would probably be Magic, Kirby would be Magic/Air, and Fox would be Tech.

I find it strange how all of the Mario heroes were off limits, though. I think Yoshi in particular would have fit fine since he is a "creature". And Mario, Luigi, Peach, and Rosalina have all been fighters in the past Mario games, and in Smash. Heck, in Mario Party 10, there is a mini-game where you push each other off platforms, and another where you push each other off a stand to be the only one in a photograph, and the male human characters straight up deck their opponents in the face for their animation. I can understand "Warrior Peach" being off limits, but a Peach who uses her umbrella as a weapon a la Super Princess Peach could have worked.

Star Fox was a weird omission. If anything, Star Fox being in Skylanders would help promote Star Fox: Zero, since Superchargers comes out first.

Bowser and DK are fine choices but I think they should have used Fox too, and Yoshi.

I wish Star Fox and Kirby were the ones to make it in the game

Only thing I can think of is that was a joke.
Like, somebody jokingly said "Hey, let's make him banana element since he's a gorilla" followed by great LOLing.

Things like that should never be explored.

I doubt it was a joke but I would sincerely understand and even appreciate if that's truly what it was.

But even the devs themselves admitted that a Banana Element would have looked wrong next to Magic, Air or Fire, for example.

Pokemon is owned by Gane Freak, so definitely not. If Pokemon couldn't get costumes in Yoshi's Woolly World, then they definitely will never touch Skylanders.

From a certain point of view, yes. But not really. In the eyes of the lawyers and how the legalities work -- that I by no means claim to know the ins and outs of -- no, Nintendo doesn't have the full rights to license him out.

Well, at the very least HAL seems very lenient with Kirby, considering how the Kirby amiibo works in most amiibo compatible games, unlike the Pokemon ones.

As a huge Donkey Kong fan, I'm kind of frothing at the mouth for those DK test prints.
I'm a little surprised they figured that DK would be problematic by changing the fur color. He's had all sorts of different fur colors in the Smash series.

I for one am excited to see them push the envelope further with DK and Bowser and maybe more amiibo in the future if this one pays off. While Sony and Microsoft fans get the short end of the stick, there's nothing stopping other companies for creating a toys to life series for their own consoles. To be honest, Im kind of shocked we didn't see anything from the other Big Two at E3 this year...it was mostly all VR and the like.

I'm really glad they didn't go with a Banana Element (or any new Elements for DK and Bowser). It's far more fun to have guest characters fit into the established Elements.

So expect Fox to appear in a future Skylanders game basically.

Calling next Nintendo guys...

To me the sole creation of future guest-stars is a big "if".

It won't simply depend on how they will sell but also how much will the new Skymiibos work with whatever gimmick the next game will have (if it will have one), how they will work (Gimmicklanders or Cores?) and how they fill fit the theme of the game (Bowser and Donkey Kong are both Mario Kart characters but next year's focus won't be vehicles anymore).

So yeah I wouldn't automatically take them for granted even if they'll sell well.

Trust me, I don't care about them...just going by the interviews and a fun "what if" game that if they re-appeared that those two may be likely. But in my estimation they are 2nd class citizens next to the Mario characters.

I don't care about them either (as long as they stay out of the lore) and the two characters you mentioned could make awesome Skymiibos.

But to me they are as much as an incognita as the support of Light and Dark for this game when it was first announced, as of now.
Just a big "if" as I said.
