So with the confirmation of Skylanders 4 and all, I was wondering just what the future is for Skylanders (and Spyro too!) Would (and could) Activision "sell" Spyro again? Is that possible? I'd love to hear your thoughts. smilie

future of skylanders? We'll see soon enough.
Sell Spyro? Doubt it, but wouldn't be surprised either. I think Spyro is safe while this franchise is active, though.

RIP GhostRoaster. He's reanimated as TakeYourLemons but occasionally is resurrected from the beyond when needed.

Why would they? Trying the IPs together like they did make legal stuff a lot more complicated(what if someone else makes a game with Spyro with portals; can Activision sue them or not?),not unlike the first Mario RPG. Not to mention,if they didn't sell Crash's IP even if they could make a big buck yet didn't make any games with him(unless they're waiting for the price to rise),they wouldn't sell the IP they're actually doing games with.

Skylanders will probably continue until sales are bad enough that it stops making sense to release things.

Spyro is locked into the Skylanders franchise, but I certainly wouldn't say that a single, standalone Spyro game would ever be out of the realm of possibility. If you ask me, I think it'd be cool to have one with Spyro going on his own adventure from Master Eon, returning to the Dragon Realms and such and possibly solving some problem there. Heck, they could even have things like being able to use the portal to summon certain characters into the game to play as (although there'd be a limit. I'd say like, Triggs, Gilly, Eruptor, Cynder, Whirlwind, Bash and Stealth would be neat) Kind of like a play on Year of the Dragon.

Other than that, I don't think we'll see anything like a standalone game any time soon. Certainly it's possible but probably not in the cards right now.

Why did Uncle Peter have an interdimentional portal in his attic?

They can make a standalone Spyro game if they feel like it at any time - it's just that Acti really seems to have an aversion of 3D plataformers despite having characters for them. The problem would be if they sold the IP,because not only the new company would have to explain why there would be FOUR timelines going on the series or ignore that entirely, but they'd also have to avoid stuff associated with Skylanders so people wouldn't think they're stealing the previous franchise, since plenty of it is trademarked unlike most Classic Spyro/LOS stuff.

Unlikely, but it'd be neat to see a Spryo game where he received temporary power-ups and upgrades from having figures on the portal, as if they're lending him support from afar.

That would work wonders in a Skylanders: Mask of Power adaptation - Play as Spyro,Gill Grunt,Terrafin,Cynder and the rest of the protags(maybe one or two for each game,Spyro still appears in Curse of the Fish Master anyway),and if you have a Portal, using the characters that supported them grants specific powerups that reference things from the books. But I've been wanting a Mask of Power game since the first one,so that's a given for me that it could sort of work.

EDIT: I can't book; Spyro doesn't follow Gill Grunt to the underwater kingdom in the second book so he only appears for a bit.
