so they will put in a chip, but it isn't a RFID (or whatever skylander chips are) is it? if it were, could you possibly send a 'dump' of one of the skylanders chip and technically have their chip register with skylanders? if so you could make your own poses for spyro and the group... interesting

You need a 3D model of it in your computer. TFB is the only place that has these, and you'll need some intensive editing programs or expensive technology to get it.

Not true, if you are making your own versions of them, you can use SketchUp and fiddle with it until you get one you like. If you wanted 'true to form' ones you could always use a 3D scanner (which are out there)

Like I said, those are tough programs for the inexperienced. And the scanner is an extremely expensive piece of machinery.

I think as far as customs go, we'll probably see a growth in people making their own Skylanders going forward (as the price of 3D printers goes down). Could be cool if you do it yourself, just as long as you don't try to sell or otherwise profit from making one.

It's actually very easy to get the Skylander model from the game, no expensive programs or prior knowledge required. However, as others have stated, that's also illegal (not that it has stopped multiple people over at Shapeways, however...).

Still, it's pretty neat, and no doubt sooner or later people will work out how to make their own chips anyhow.
