If you buy an alt-ego and then win it in the Wishing Well, do you get your gems back?

If you buy an alter ego, you can no longer win it in the wishing well. As far as I know, you can only get gems back if you enter the code that comes on the sticker with a physical toy.

If you own the alter ego, they won't appear in the well. It would be nice since I ended up having to buy NY Countdown because he never appeared in my well. But since it doesn't seem like they're doing any more updates, what else do I have to spend gems on? Though now I'm wondering what would have happened if I jumped all the way to January 2015.

I'm in the same boat - having had to spend gems on NYC. Thought about going to next New Year, but worried about having the well not work again until then. I guess since I'm averaging about 100 gems per day, it's not such a big deal, but it would be nice to have something new to spend them on.

I've been buying some of the Skylanders at 1/2 price. I figured, at most, that's 5 runs through Molekin Market (or 2,500,000 gold), which makes it cheaper than a spin. I've only been getting the Legendaries, though, since they have more value for me with the halls. I also have quite a bit of gold, so either way is fine for me. I figured I would buy Legendaries at 1/2 off so that I can go ahead and get them for my halls instead of taking a chance in the well. I only have variants left, but still have quite a few to go. I'll continue to spin as well. I can probably spin for all of them, now, but I'm taking my time as I build up my others to lvl 15.
