Ok, so I saw some "Fruit Ninja" figures that save level progress on the game via RFID...
Sound familiar?
Take a look and tell me these are not made in a Skylanders factory.
The packaging is almost exactly the same too. Sadly I couldn't get hold of one to keep and hack but they are apparently hitting retail soon(ish).

Yup, looks like they tried to make a near-identical clone of the figures. What are they thinking?

I am 99.9% sure these are made in the same factory by the same people. In fact I would lay odds that "air" cloud base matched an existing Skylander base lump for lump.
Wish I had a contact in Activision that could confirm if they have officially licensed this or something dodgy is going on. Fruit Ninja (and these figures) are quite a big brand so I find it unlikely they are just ripping them off. They even have RFID in the base in addition to the QR code. |

Eeyup, that looks pretty similar to a Skylanders figure, right down to the blue base. I wouldn't be surprised if they were made in the same factory.

Guys, it's a plastic figure with a chip in it...it makes sense that anyone doing a toy with an RFID chip in it will have a base that encloses the chip. Not sure if Activision has a patent on the design; if they do it could mean decent revenue for them even after Skylanders bites the dust. I have a feeling though Disney is not paying them royalties

You can tell the clouds aren't just a Skylander mold because there's no swirls on them.
Anyway, what is up with these figures, like, can you buy them on their own and use them with an iPad game or something? Man, I haven't played Fruit Ninja in ages, but I would love that Sensei figure.

It's on Amazon, as well as Toys R Us' s website, but from what I can see, only the Sensei one is being sold right now. I'd assume it'# be in most stores that sell toys right now. According to the description, it's for using with the Fruit Ninja app for iPad (no Android support, it seems). Whenever you place the figure on your iPad, it gives access to a two player mode in the game.

It says "This item is also available for shipping to select countries outside the U.S." so I'm assuming that they will. One thing I just noticed now though, apparently on Amazon it's an "add on item", which means you can only get it with an order of $25 or more (excluding gift cards). So if you're not planning to get at least $25 worth of stuff with your figure, you might want to go somewhere else.

Those definitely look similar; more similar than any other toys on the market. While I don't think they're the same "molds" per se, the design is pretty on par to a Skylander figure, but there's only so many ways to make bases.

The one that's available is a different figure. It's an app-tivity figure that's used with the mobile games.
These different ones are actually available at arcades. They save progress on the Fruit Ninja FX 2 arcade game, so they're just memory cards.

Well the Molds are very similar but the fact that they use QR codes and not RFID chips make it different and means it cannot save data.

So first Skylanders releases a touch screen arcade version of Cloud Patrol similar to the arcade Fruit Ninja machine... now Fruit Ninja releases RFID figures similar to Skylanders figures. What's going on here!?!
