Ever since SF came out last October, every TRU i've visited has had 2 shelf locations in the store. One with the video games and one at the front of the store featured prominently. I visited my closet TRU yesterday after work and was surprised to see that lego had taken over the front of the store location, presumably because of the lego movie launch. Anyone else notice this?
My feeble understanding is that brands (lego, skylanders) pay extra for good shelf space, it's not really about what the store is trying to push. Curious.

Englanders? You might want to edit that.
Yeah, I noticed it, too. It sucks.

Same timeframe as last year. Late January the secondary "promo" Skylanders area was turned into Barbie. This year it is Lego. Same thing at my store, except part of the promo area is still split Skylanders, and the area in the video game area has expanded to the entire side of a row (consuming the old video game plushes/shirts/backpacks/etc.). It could take up even less space if they were able to move the old Giants/SSA stuff - Ninjini is literally a quarter of all of the older stuff. Swap Force triples/adventure/battle packs also take up an overwhelming amount of space. It appears that singles/lightcores/swappers are the only thing that is moving - glad I'm not doing the packaged thing, I have a feeling the later triple packs are going to be insanely rare - people just don't want the two old/one new configuration anymore, and I doubt store place significant orders for them.

Never going to happen all the time I'm at TRU! No seriously the store planners at head office send down the layouts and the stores have to abide. At our store we should be ok though, the front display is changing to Lego Movie but not taking any additional shelf space. Swap Force still has 8ft of pegs and shelves plus more in the games dept. Guess it comes down to size/shape of the store layout.

Most of the TRUs I've been to still have a very large section of Skylanders stuff in the back. There should still be plenty of space for things that are being released/coming out so even though they may lose a large amount of front space, they'll probably just stick the stuff in the back until it moves from the regular area.

Stupid phone spell corrector. I agree it sucks, but on the bright side, it may mean they stop stocking all the old figures. |

My store had Skylanders removed from the Promo Area (Front of Store) last Thursday replaced by the Lego Movie toys.
They are still located by the electronics (Video Games/Movies), sharing space with Disney. Skylanders is using 75% of the shelf and Disney is using 25%. |

Same thing happened in the TRU store I frequent. Skylanders is in the back sharing space with DI. Lego, and specifically Lego Movie, sets are in the front. Skylanders need to get wave 4 out because the excitement has definitely died down. |

Skylanders hot and heavy purchases is REALLY good for three months of the year. Given the lack of movement on new waves/figures they should consolidate. I'm also guessing how TRU can remove the SSA and SG stuff out of the lineup permanently. It's gotta be expensive having that real estate and not move stuff.

It looks like my store did the same. But it makes sense. Skylanders has taken that prime spot for 3 1/2 months. That's over a 1/4 of a year and it was during the busiest time of the year at that. Our store has one entire aisle with Disney Infinity taking up half of one side, then one section of random Mario toys, and the rest of that side and the entire other side taken up by Skylanders.

Not to mention a Lego Movie coming out. They are going to hammer us with Lego stuff. Makes sense.

The move is to promote the upcoming LEGO movie and related products. It's not really a reflection of sales.

True, but it definitely impacts sales. There are TRUsted that have their video game section way in the back.

Mine moved all the front stuff to square shelves next to electronics and whatever else didnt fit there went to the aisle in electronics or went back into stockroom/area. Legos are in the front now.
