Idea for next generation Skylanders toys/game [CLOSED]

I had a random idea the other day. People have talked about adding light and dark element Skylanders.

Imagine they do that, but these new Skylanders are kind of like lightcore ones, but can shift between a dark purple or white lighting through color LEDs, and do this when they detect the ambient light levels. So if you have your lights on in your room while playing, they would be in 'light' form, and if you shut off the lights they would turn into their dark forms.

I think they could add normal light only or dark only element Skylanders too, but these could be a Swap Force-like team that could shift between both. This could also enable having a light/dark world mechanic like the Zelda games across all levels but that might be too much haha. I think this idea would be fun though and play with the idea of the real world and virtual world coming together that is Skylanders' unique magic. (Imagine flicking off the lights, as in your room lights, and the game world suddenly shifting to the dark world, and your active figurine suddenly glowing an ominous purple.)

I would love to see this personally at Toy Fair as the next 'innovation' they build around.

Thoughts?

Seems cool. It sounds kind of like the idea of the Dark Light Crypt level (which I thought was really neat). The only thing I would say though was that instead of having the light sensor in the guys, the portal would be a better spot (i know, it would mean we would all need yet another portal). But having it in the portal would allow you to change between light and dark world by flicking on or off the lights (or just covering up the sensor so that kids could still use it easily) and based off of what the game play is, would determine how these special lightcores showed up.

Oh! Integrating the light sensor into the portal is a really clever idea to keep costs down without taking away the experience at all, I like it. Toys for Bob should hire the two of us as consultants smilie And now I'm looking more forward to checking out Dark Light Crypt, I've been saving the older adventure sets for until I finish my SA story play through.

I have another idea to throw in here, this would be an idea for another 'generation'.

Skylanders Sidekicks: Basically it would take the promotional sidekick toys we have now and run with it (could in fact retroactively let the current sidekicks in), allowing each main Skylander to have a sidekick with them that offer auras or supporting firepower, and maybe a special combo move that's more powerful if they match, or some form of leveling up the shared relationship between a specific Skylander and a sidekick. There would also be puzzles or areas where you have to take your regular sized Skylander off and play with the tiny sidekick only, like it can go into areas the bigger Skylanders can't access, etc. almost like an inverse Skylanders Giants.

Here's an idea, what if the figures used Fiber Optics to light themselves and changed color as the portal change color.

It's a nice idea, but we already have tons of discussion topics already.

I honestly see no problem with multiple discussion topics if they focus on a specific type of discussion. But that is neither here nor there.

Back on topic though: This idea reminds me a lot of the "Outlanders" Idea people thought of back when SSF was still just being a predicted Skylanders 3. It does sound more interesting though... I don't think adding the Light and Dark elements are necessary, nor would it make sense in the Skylands Lore. Which is a complaint for a lot of people when you suggest having new elements. But the idea of a darkness infested Lightcore could work. (Personally, as far as I'm concerned, the Lightcore Skylanders are already Light element, Light and Dark being sub-elements.) Perhaps and idea like this is what can bring the Outlanders to finally be. 16 new characters, 8 Outlanders and 8 "Darkcores." Along side bring back 16 characters, Series 2s, 3s, and 4s of the iconic 8. And lightcores of fan favorites, plus and Outlander or 2. And using the Zelda series as a template for cross world gameplay might be the best thing you could do to add some new flavor to the series. Going between Skylands and the Outlands. As Eon would say, this would be the Skylanders, and the new found team of Outlanders, most dangerous mission yet!

On a side note: I never really liked the idea of the Outlanders belonging to Kaos, and the whole Kaos and "You, Young Portal Master" having to team up for an even bigger bad. To me, the Outlanders would be Skylanders, or potential Skylanders, that had gone to, or grew up in the Outlands, where the darkness rules. Thus they could never make it to, or be discovered by Eon. But they still banded together to protect the poor Mabu, or other species, who might be stuck in the Outlands. And whatever goofy plan Kaos has made up this time has out stretched to beyond Skylands, thus into the Outlands. And well, the Sklyanders and Oulanders finally meet and join forces. As for how the Outlanders and "Darkcores" got to Earth? The darkness got fed up with them and spit them out to us. Or maybe Kaos's Mother did what Kaos did at the beginning of the first game.

That's interesting! Actually I've always wondered how the Lightcores work, is that some form of fiber optics that's getting the light from the portal underneath, or do they have their own built-in LEDs that draw power from the portal?

Huh, I'm pretty new to this community, got into Skylanders with Swap Force a month or two ago. Is there a good specific forum post somewhere that sums up the Outlanders idea in a great way? Sounds interesting!

I like the idea of folding this concept together with Lightcores and having the "Darkcores" (or maybe Shadowcores?) The game could then allow Lightcore characters played in a bright setting access a light world layer to the game, and the Shadow/Darkcore characters could access the shadow world when the lights are turned off. But yeah I don't know enough on this existing fan Outlanders theory to fold that all together in my head yet smilie Would love to read up more on that one!

On the idea of teaming up with Kaos at some point as the reluctant ally against a greater enemy, I have to say I LOVE that plot device generally, but there would have to be a really great reason to drive it. (One of my favorites in other stories is Magneto/Xavier teamup in X2 against Stryker.) I suppose an angle could be that while Kaos is always trying to take over Skylands as his own, there could emerge a greater threat that aims to destroy the Skylands world all together? Maybe outside in the 'real world'?

Calling it now, Skylanders 4 villain is the Disney Company who is out to destroy the Skylanders franchise with Disney Infinity. smilie That would be a pretty funny satirical plot for a Skylanders game though, where the villain is making 'clones' of Skylanders to try to take over the land. smilie
