I'm genuinely curious, what fuels you to buy each toy and game?

The fact is that I LOVE playing with different characters, each one having different abilities and gameplays, in an adventure/platforming game. The variety it's simply outstanding!

Good Question Hope i give a good answer .
The games make me want to buy the toys : At first it was just one extra skylander , then it was the need to open the elemental doors ,then it was skylanders with big faces wielding big medieval weapons or the wizard types . After that it was a flood gate . Now i dont really care which Skylander i buy . All those little subtle hints in the games do their best to make you want to buy more toys and they pretty much succeed . The only gimmick that does not work on me is the soul gems for other skylanders and their in game video adverts . I pretty much have decided who i want to buy the next month . I do like sitting and watching the video adverts , its part of my adventure experience . The toys leveling up and having all their upgrades also makes we want to buy another skylander. I would also like to note that Lost Islands influenced me into buying warnado and legendary bouncer and wanting to get Prism Break before the great crash of 42. If i see an enchanted hootloop or legendary stealth elf i will buy them too . I rolled for these guys or paid green gems for them and it annoys the heck out of me not to seeing em in my cookie jar. The toys influence me to buy the games Woe betide the day that activision decided that skylanders 4 or 5 or 6 does not allow me to play with my Voodood because well thats when i stop buying more games . More skylander games means more worlds for my original SSA corp to explore . I love seeing how my toys work so different on the DS compared to the PS3 . I know that reason is because of hardware differences but its fun never the less . Lets not forget those exclusive toys that appear in game packs . This forum . Well i am sucker for the underdog and when you boys start ragging on a poor skylander. I just want to go out and adopt him and protect him from all you meanies . Being surrounded by people who talk about skylanders all day keeps my attention on the game. My little brother . I dont really give a hootloop if i buy an original "obsolete" SSA figure or not but little brother cares alot about Wow Pow,s heroic challenges , accolades and elemental gates. I dont care too much for different poses of the same figure . Heck i am going to get spares sooner or later anyway . Right now they are selling S2 and S1 for the same price of 10 bucks so i dont mind buying an S2 of anything . If the shops do a massive discount on S1 toys say 5 bucks well too bad i will choose that over S2 . My love for fantasy / paradise world settings. I read fantasy books , i watch my little pony .I play fantasy games . I love magical worlds that make me forget my problems . The skylands are cute and fuzzy and makes me feel cute and fuzzy . Anything and everything is possible . Fear of a certain toy disappearing This cannot be helped but i will do my best to buy what i want first and hope i will get the rest later . I dunno how long Dino Rang is going to still be around so i want to buy him soon .

The figs are cute, the games are fun, and I have this collecting bug. All these things influence me. I've been enjoying Skylanders since the 1st game, and I can see myself playing this 10+ years from now. I'm a gamer, so I love what I love, and play whatever games I want to. I'm still playing FF1, and that's older than TFB! What's not to love about Skylanders?

I like it because with all the different characters you have so many choices of gameplay styles. Seriously, it's that simple for me.
I'm upset that SF has somewhat negated this with the old Skylanders with their nerfs being so much worse off than the ones introduced in SF. And some old ones like Slam Bam and Prism Break are just terrible in SF. I find many of my old toys are no fun to play because they can't survive in SF or they're outclassed by new characters who fill a very similar role better. Also, in SA, I was interested because I loved the immersive plot and deep lore, though that's not really true of Giants and SF for me(note, I liked Giants' story, but it wasn't immersive like SA's). I miss being a Portal Master I'm unsure of wether I want any more games at this point. They've- bluntly- ruined aspects I really liked about the series, but I'd like to stick around only to play with all the characters and see where the story goes. However, with how SF has handled older characters and how many of the new ones underwhelmed me, I'm very skeptical. I just want to see them polish the game to the max potential next time, honestly, there are enough toys to play as it is and there are so many little problems in the games right now that could be fixed, and little feature they could add or improve.

I have a huge collecting habit. (I have 80+ Skylanders. Don't get me started on my 2,000+ Pokemon cards.)
Plus, I love playing as different characters to cater to my playing style, and I love action-adventure RPG games. This forum is also keeping me playing. They tell me their thoughts and feelings of the game and it gets me worked up for the next one. That's about it. XP

I'm a family man who loves video games, loves a challenge, has 'somewhat' disposable income, works a stressful job, and has a 2 *almost 3* year old son who's as impressionable as a jello mold.
So its a perfect storm. Skylanders feeds my gaming habit without requiring immense time like say CoD or SF4. My wife will pick it up and play with me (Giants, not Swapforce ). The challenge is honestly minimal, but its one of my 'concessions' and I do things ot push the difficulty, its so easy to pick up and put down that its a solid stress reliever. My income allows me to 'collect' pretty much all of them (to paint a picture, I have at least one of every character from SSA, all the Legendaries, multiples of some variants like 'dark', all the non-rare Giant variants (Glitter Hot head where are you? Going ot just make a Wicked Thumpback )), so unlike when I was a kid and I "couldn't" buy this or that because I was well a kid, now its at a price range where I can do what I want, but its not so expensive on a micro scale (single transaction), that my wife would take issue. the biggest part though is my son. It's not a scary game - though he used to freak out whenever you control the robots in Giants, still don't know why. It's not a violent game, YES there is sword play, YES there is shooting, and some of both have been copied by him - but I think its honestly more Ninja turtles & Killer Instinct - than Skylanders. It's a simple enough game that @ 2-3 he understands sort of what is going on. AND the best part from a parenting angle - he lets ME play it. I can't say that emphatically enough. He's content putting figures on the portal, or making a bunch of Swap Force combinations and then seeing them on screen, so "I" can actually play and "I" can relieve stress, while his attention is captivated. The toys have become ways of me 'rewarding him' - while actually getting something for myself. It's not uncommon to hear me say something along the lines of "If you get a sticker at day care today, maybe we'll go get some Skylanders tonight!" with that said, I need Wave 4 to hit...hahaha - Unreall |

Mostly because the series is good, really. Before SF,the games weren't overly silly, and though they weren't deep or intense enough compared to other games,SSA and Giants are a load of fun when I feel like doing something not that mindless but not that stressing. The toys are also are a lot more than a physical DLC - some have gameplay styles so different it feels like a different game altogether, and going through all the lore and stories they have gives a lot of value and personality to these silly-looking pieces of plastic.
That kind of stops at SF,however,if you ever plan on trying out the series. They push the older characters aside - while in Giants they actually had even more stuff to be done with than in SSA - and the story nearly insults the other two games. Sure, the graphics are prettier, but SF killed the immersion which was a big part of the franchise as a whole. Who knows if they'll bring the good things back for the next game,though...

Toys: Each character is unique in their own way and some of them have great back stories.
Game: The story keeps me wanting to see the next adventure for the Skylanders, there re some really cool side characters, and the gameplay is great. Not to mention it reminds me of the older Spyro games. |

I don't like it, I think it's waste of money. Each new toy costs and it could take a lot of money if you buy lots of toys. The gamemakers have invented a great way to earn money. I like the real Spyro games, not Skylanders. I thought Skylanders: Spyro's Adventure would be a Spyro game but it wasn't, it's just some monster game where I should buy more and more extra toys. I regret buying Skylanders: Spyro's Adventure and I think Skylanders have ruined this site too. It used to be just Spyro fansite, not Spyro and Skylanders....

The fanbase wasn't that much better even when DOTD was just out you know. If anything, it's LoS that has separated the fanbase if that's what you're getting at. |

Skylanders,if anything, just set the fandom's breaking in stone,or made some of the more radical fans truly mean. I recall people being up in arms in how Spyro's backstory shouldn't be ever explained or how it tried too hard to be a fantasy when that was exactly what Classic was about, but insulting and harassing others for liking part of the series only started to get really common when SSA came out.At least nowadays people are at least more civil about it...

I have a 5 year old son and it's a game that we can play together and have a lot of fun doing so. We are new converts, he got Swapforce for Christmas on my PS3 and we got him Spyro's Adventure for his 3DS. I just got a copy of SSA last week for the PS3 and loving it. I have also downloaded Spyro the Dragon for my PS3. I love the different characters, their abilities, their weaknesses and their strengths and figuring out which pairs work best together.

I play Skylanders because I'm loyal to the Spyro universe and it reminds me of the classic games. Generally I view the Legend's series as a let down for me as I didn't like the direction it went with it becoming so dark and I'm not a huge fan of the whole "end of the world". But I do like that some Legend's characters followed over to Skylanders as well (Cynder & Malefor).

This. I like the games because they're not too challenging like some platformer games are and I sometimes prefer casual games. I also like the idea of data being saved inside collectable figures |

One word: Spyro.
Okay, other then that... I have fun playing it, and some characters are pretty cool and fun to play as. (Of course, none of them can compare to Spyro..^.^ *coughIMOcough*)

Let's see.
I first got interested not just it had Spyro and I didn't mind the redesign as much as most dide, but because it had all these charming characters in them. Still, I kind of wish there was a token fat Skylander. I also play the game cause it's fun. I've been trying to do a Skylanders Giants One-And-Only challenge on Nightmare with Bash, and the challenge is quite fun. I'm still only on Level 6 though. Also, the idea of buying toys to play the game, I'll be honest, it intrigues me. |

firstly i like skyanders because i can have an option to play a variety of characters also brings the characters to life on screen by portal mostlyy because of swap force to swap parts to make a new combination.
