For the next while, my son and I are going to have to share a device and log in and out of activate to switch between our islands. While this should work in theory, I'm a bit apprehensive about relying completely on the cloud save and constantly switching back and forth.
Does anyone else do this? If so, have you had any problems?

I play on 2 devices so I move the game back and forth each day. By doing this you become immediately aware if your cloud save is corrupt.
A month ago when there were all those problems I would tell you don't even think about it because my cloud save was corrupting at least once a day. Specifically, save game to cloud on ipad, attempt to load on iphone and the game is corrupt. I would have to repeat, sometimes several times, until successful. Quite frankly, were it not for my 2 devices, I would have been corrupted along with the others and lost my game. I had a time where my ipad game corrupted and the cloud was corrupted so I had to go back to an older game that was on my phone. Things are much better these days but I still see a problem occasionally. Personally, I would never do this based on my experience and the state of my game. I think it is too risky. What if they release a patch with similar problems next week?

Good points. Probably best if I just accept that I won't be able to check my island for a week. Better to know that it will be waiting for me exactly as I left it than risk having it corrupted again.

You can make a backup of your iDevice's data using iTunes on PC/Mac and keep it there (I now do regular backups once a week or immediately after winning/purchasing something important like new alter-ego or fancy house/shrine, etc.) In this case even if your save gets corrupted you always have a not too old backup to start not from scratch.
Better safe than sorry. |

Maybe slightly off-topic, but when playing on two devices, you can use this to your benefit as I discovered when the android version was launched. I'm sure others are doing it too. I'm doing this mainly when using the wishing well: try on one device, and if you don't like the prizes or number of stones you had to use, you go to your second device and don't accept the latest save. That way you can start again with full stone count.

I've been playing 3 games on one device. So far it's been ok, I haven't been switching devices lately, so I don't know the state of my cloud saves. But the game does save a local copy on the device. I do however back up my ipad daily, to be on the safe side.
Best thing to do is save a backup on another device or on itunes. Then give it a try. At worst you may lose 1 week of playing if things go wrong. |
