Does anyone else think it is weird that Absolut Vodka, Fragrances with Scantily clad models, and other sketchy advertisements are part of the banner adds on a forum visited by so many children. I'm not uptight about this kind of stuff, because they see it and worse everywhere and I talk openly with my child, but it kind of struck me as funny (in a, "I guess we are doing that now" kind of way). Sorry if this is the wrong place to put this, but I was here when I saw it,...so I think it is relevant.

The adds use your cookies to determine what to show you. Like me, I have Canadian Tire adds, probably because I looked a couple of things on their website recently.

Normally I would believe you, (and I don't think you are telling a lie), but it doesn't make sense. I just completely wiped my hard drive clean and re-partitioned it and re-installed the operating system (because my desktop hadn't worked for a year, due to corrupted/missing files from Windows XP). I took it to Best Buy and they told me the hard drive was toast, I didn't believe them and just wiped everything clean and started fresh.
The only web sites I have been to, are ebay, frito lay and this one. My son was on you tube for a bit, so maybe that is the culprit. I'm pretty sure neither of us looked up vodka, cars, hotels or teenage ADHD. He likes to watch the parody videos on you tube.

What she said is true. It depends on your search history.

I've had Chinese online store ads, Walmart ads, and eBay ads, all because I do research on those things.

This also isn't the place to discuss this, you should go to the Site Help and Suggestions part of the forum.

You would be surprised how good tracking is. It may be you logged into a website and it made a cookie, the adds see that cookie and connect you with the user they already know from the other site etc...

A clean HD doesn't mean much once you start using the web.

Also, they may be just random with no other starting point so SOMETHING had to be there.

Computer specialist here and they are correct it is based off website searches and if you goto say a website that has other ads your computer picks those cookies up and so on. YouTube is the worst because there site is full of ad cookies you can pick up.

And if you clear out everything and start over, they're not going to just show no ads at all, they'll pick default ads based on whatever criteria they have for defaults.

While I've noticed ads here, they've never bugged me.... when you see ads that may not be in the correct places, I always recommend a virus/malware-scan. Malwarebytes is the first program I go for.

I once had something nasty adding advertisements to every page I went to, even toyrus.com had some questionable ads for other stores.

I think a lot of the ads are generated by AdChoices, which seems to be the company that assembles the ads into what appears on this (and tons of other) forums.
It does have to do with your browsing history, but there's also other ones that seem to sneak by as well.

I think you might be able to report them. Regardless, I think this is more of a Site Help and Suggestions than something about Skylanders toys and merch lol

I have a Jeep ad that makes sound whenever you roll over it on basically every page.

It's partly browser history, partly not.

I've gotten an ad that was for something *ahem* let's say NSFW in the past with a blank browser history. Though sometimes I'll also get Amazon, ebay, or TRU ads for Skylanders with Skylanders clogging my history.

Right now I have one for Holiday Inn, and haven't done anything regarding hotels or travel as far as what would be in my browser history. Lately I'm getting quite a few ads telling me my teen has ADHD, yet others have noted that ad too, so it's a generic one generator by the ad-provider.

What exactly in the history generates what I couldn't say, but it's definatly part of what determines what ads you get.
