10. Treating the fans
This is a really interesting case on most parts, which comes down to not whether or not Nintendo listen to their fans or not, but more or less how Nintendo try to respond to the fans given issues on any situation. When asked that casual games are thrown out the window in terms of a more immersive and deep experience? They give us old, overdone IPs with much easier mechanics and no depth to the game whatsoever rather than catering to the gameplay mechanics of yesterday. When asked to do away with Wind Waker's style of graphics? They do so...for one game. Then they proceed to shell out not only two games with the similar style of graphics (and the similar tedium of sailing/riding the rails), but they do nothing in order to improve on the negative aspects of such. If one were to look at Skyward Sword's gameplay trailers, it's Wind Waker's enemies with the Twilight Princess-styled Link.
Miyamoto-san better have good writers to make up for this aesthetical mistake.
Oh, let's not forget the amount of lawsuits of which they send out each year to their fans! Boardering on Square Enix's failures with deleting fan projects, Nintendo have expressed strong discontent for any ROM hacks or community work done of their games, going as far as to send a C&D letter to fansites Serebii and Pokebeach for posting screenshots of Pokemon Black and White, a game which was already released in Japan. Their reasons? Bad publicity, apparently. Oh, and that's only the most recently known and famous case of this.
9. Ignoring their few decent IPs with potential remaining
Let's see...Custom Robo, Pikmin, Fire Emblem, Advance Wars, Mother...
...
Sound familiar to any of you?
No?
These were probably some of the more innovative ideas from Nintendo. Some succeeded and some met high critical acclaim. However, Nintendo refuse to do quite a few things with franchises like these, including not localize them...or more likely just ignore them altogether and pretend that they never existed in the first place.
The worst case of this is Fire Emblem, a well-written game by Nintendo's standards which raises the platform of risk taken with strategy games, and the inventor of the strategy RPG genre. As of the remake of Fire Emblem 3 for the DS, Nintendo has stopped localizing the series, even though most of the localizations of the game were met to acclaim (FE7 and 9 come to immediate mind). Why? It wasn't selling enough for them apparently...even though the total sales of these games surpassed those in Japan. Well done Nintendo *slow clap*
Oh, where's Pikmin 3, guys?
8. Online Support
Play Brawl. Enough said.
...
Fine, I'll elaborate.
Online gaming is the way of the multiplayer future. Guess what Nintendo doesn't touch upon? Guess what could have made NSMBWii replayable?
That's right!
And that's all the elaboration you'll get besides its completely ****ty speed and lag issues.
7. Lack of TPS
I think when the 64 rolled around, a lot of people jumped off the Nintendo ship. The few that stayed around have been releasing lackluster title after title for the later Nintendo systems, and saving all the good junk for the PC, Sony and Microsoft lines of games. Nintendo need to win over this support again in order to win over a crowd. Atlus seem to be coming back, as well as Capcom...and a few mediocre indie developers. However, that's not going to be enough to save Nintendo from being a Shovelware-endorsing company.
Whatever happened to the Nintendo Seal of Quality anyway? We need to get that back.
6. Prices
$60 for a first party title on launch. It usually drops to $40.
I can get **** on Steam better than a first party Nintendo title for $2. Psychonauts comes to mind.
30 Psychonauts for 1 NSMBWii. This is how Nintendo get away with making their systems dirt cheap.
5. Localization
Above example: Fire Emblem. New Example: Mother 3.
It took a fan translation made by a small team of decent people to finally get a proper localization over to the Americas. There's a good few million bucks out of your wallet Nintendo.
Oh, to add salt to the wound of Nintendo's credibility, Mother 3 was the last good game of which they have released as to date...with a story and gameplay with such incredible depth that one would be surprised to actually see it has the Nintendo label on it. Until you realize that it was directed by a man named Shigesato Itoi anyway, who has nothing to do with Nintendo other than creating the Mother series.
So what does Nintendo do with their last great game? Not localize it. Why? They didn't think it would sell well due to it being a jRPG.
Do they steal away their internet connections over at the Nintendo office buildings or something?
"I would rather see Mother 3 over here rather than Mario Kart Eleventy Billion, The Next Generation" - Ben Croshaw
4. Gimmicks
Nobody cares about touch screens, stereoscopic 3D or motion controls. Nobody ever will, unless they're drawn in by mass media promoting it as the way of the future. The serious gamer will be immersed by ways of thumbs and buttons. It has been traditional because it ****ing works.
3. Sequel Stagnation
Enough money to generate three third world countries for a year, and Nintendo still doesn't want to touch on new IPs. Instead, we see another Mario, Zelda, Pokemon Metroid each year from them. And the **** never significantly changes (especially with Pokemon. How that series is still breathing is due to a fanbase of imbeciles).
Oh, and as far as new IPs go, I'm not talking about Wii Sports or Brain Age. I'm talking about a truly immersive gamer's experience of which can delve you into the world again. Why people keep asking for a new Ocarina of Time is because it succeeded in the field of immersion and ended up being a true epic by all levels...and not because they want a new Zelda game of a similar nature. We want to be entertained on an intellectual level already, dammit.
2. Lack of ability to take risk
This corresponds with the above. Hardware risk doesn't count. Let's see Nintendo try and do something truly different with the software of which is presented before them all over again. They made gaming's base. Now it's time to expand on it and prove to the world before our eyes that gaming = artform. That is the direction it has been taking with truly serious developers, and with Nintendo's money, money and more money that they have...they could push the boundaries so that gaming is seen at the same level as movies, novels or music is seen at.
But they're stuck in the same place. Why? They cash in. Due to a retarded fanbase who would defend Nintendo even if they released Japanese military propaganda within a game about aiming nukes at Russia.
I'm beginning to see Nintendo as a lost cause for gaming. They innovated back in the day, sure. They're not needed now anymore.
1. Artistic Integrity
See above.
I wrote this all down in a stream of consciousness without any serious merit of writing at 3 in the morning shut your ****ing mouth goddamn I can't type **** **** balls.

You might want to put that footnote at the top of the post.
Anyway, I actually agree with like two words from that post. It's a new record! It actually bought up some good points but not all of those are really big issues imo and many of the arguments were incredibly poorly worded

I agree. Look at the EarthBound fan-base! They're almost begging for it to be released! But Reggie just ignores them.
He deserves this again: But Nintendo only cares about their big money makin' plumber. Yeah, the games are good, but they milked it enough. Leave Mario alone for a while, and focus on classics like EarthBound/Mother, Punch-Out, and the other forgotten games.

Still prefer Nintendo even if that makes me an imbecile.I like Sony and all but I don't like most of its gaming series.(Except Spyro and Crash,I love those)
Also may I add, most of the games that are made(or published) by Nintendo are for kids.Yes I also want Mother back but they mainly focus on kids and they may think that Mother is too complicated per say. Also how does any of your points prove that by fact Nintendo is a ripoff of Sony?

I absolutely agree with this, seeing what Nintendo has been up to lately has left me incredibly jaded. As much as I liked the Wii the whole motion control thing was a gimmick that didn't augment my experience, instead it just caused a whole lot of agony but that's just me. At this point I'm beginning to think that Mario is Nintendo's Call of Duty, it is heavily recycled with minimal changes just like how Activision treats CoD, it is a shallow, soulless cash cow. Another thing to point out is that Nintendo likes to abuse search rankings, like with the Polaris Co-Optional Podcast they showed a 5 minute clip of Pokemon X/Y and then the network had to remove the video, edit it and then reupload it because Nintendo's automated search found the VOD of the podcast and decided to monitise the whole thing, all 2 hours of the show. So Polaris had to cut out the part with the clip of Pokemon otherwise Nintendo will just monitise the whole bloody show, it's ridiculous.
Edit: I wouldn't call them a ripoff of Sony though, I don't know where that comes from.

This is entirely true if they laid mario for a rest for a few years and started to make some good unique titles or bring back old games like mother i might be interested in buying a nintendo home console again, ats all just the same crap over again (im not hating on nintendo i am accutaly a huge fan).Nintendo would still have enough money even if they pushed mario over to the side. What im trying to say here is that even if you didnt work on mario games for a few years you would still have enough money to bring back old games and make new unique games. And then mabey you will get more customers.

For those who think Nintendo didn't save the video game market, go look up about the Video Game Market Crash. The basic gist of it though is that Atari killed the market(both arcade and home markets) and Nintendo revived them with Donkey Kong and SMB.
