What are your (semi-satirical) Skylanders dating tips?

  • Never ask a (smart, any way) girl who she thinks is the prettiest Skylander and say you'll buy it for her. She'll ask for Purple Metallic Cynder.
  • Never use Flynn's pick-up lines. He may be good with the ladies of Skylands, but shockingly, they don't work on humans
  • More coming soon!

If you're a single adult, NEVER tell a girl that you are into Skylanders. There's a chance she's into it/cool with it, but there's a much greater chance you will stay single.

Flynn has the worst pickup lines ever. I pity anyone who would actually try them in real life.

"That bunch of toys over there? Oh yeah, my nephews come over and they all play this game together with those. They go nuts over it. ... Mine? No, but I heard that adults actually like playing that together. Hmm ... You said you like Facebook games? Well, since I heard it was so fun, I've been meaning to try it with someone cool. You're awesome, so it would probably be at least worth trying. ...But just because you're the coolest girl I've met in a really long time. ... What? Yeah, totally. Let's play it right now!"

"Yeah, have you heard of these little toys called Skylanders? I buy and resell them. I sold one for $500. What? do I play it? I've tried it at a friend's house, and it's fun."

MORAL OF STORY: No matter how much you love it, Skylanders should be kept secret from most women. I've only ever said something to my friends once, and it's similar to the above lines.

After the girl knows you're cool and likes you, then you confess your hobby. If she encourages you to be a kid sometimes, she's definitely a keeper. I even got my non-gamer wife to play it with me and maybe enjoy it a little, but not try to overdo it since I'm sure she was just doing it to make me happy.

... But yeah, maybe don't start talking about it on the first date. On the flip side, playing with all my nephews and being really good with kids helped me land an awesome wife.

A Skylanders collection is definitely not something for a single guy to share on a first date with a woman. While it might be considered cute, in a "he's in touch with his inner child" way, it's more likely that you'd be considered a hermit or possible pedophile (depends on how cynical and/or paranoid the lady is).

However, if you've had 3 or 4 successful dates with a woman, you probably do want to consider letting her see some of your personal life, and a hobby/collection is one not-too-intimate way to do that. By that point, after 3 or 4 dates, the woman obviously has at least some interest in seeing if you're a "keeper", so hiding things or lying about your vices at that point just makes you look dishonest or lacking self-confidence.

Well since I'm a wife and was a non-gamer once upon a time, my husband got me into video games.... he was so proud of his library of games but I think the value of my skylander collection put the value of his library to shame... I will say this is the most expensive video game I've ever sunk money into. But I like it! I like it!

I find the opposite is true if you're a woman. I've mentioned my love of Skylanders to my coworkers openly and never got made fun of. Some of the guys told me they loved it before I mentioned it though. Not that I'm ashamed or anything, but I thought, meh, I don't need to brag. We have Pokemon fanatics here too! smilie

Good dating advice though?: If you want to introduce your date to your collection, start small. It's one thing to show them a few of your favorites, but showing them the whole collection in one go? Might be a tad overwhelming... Not saying you should lie. Mention that those are your favorites and that you have a collection, but don't show them all at once!

This is coming from a lifetime gamer with a bf who's also a lifetime gamer though. Yes, I'm very lucky. smilie

More advice?: Don't make Stink Bomb your wingman. Just don't.

I don't know, guys. The very first time I met my wife I told her that I played Pokemon professionally. Everyone told me that was a mistake but she's my wife now so I guess I was right. smilie

Edit: She just corrected my story. What I actually said was that I play Pokemon "brofessionally".

When you're on a first date, don't unleash a "Silent, but Deadly" and then blame it on your date.
