A guy with an Italian accent at school yelled at me in frustration when I said that I thought he was Italian. He was angry at my reason being his name is Mario and he has an Italian accent. This made him angrier saying that that was a schtupid stereotype. Turns out he was from Spain. He did have a point though :/

I believe that actually depends from where you see it. Many Spanish words are similar to English yet the 2 are not that similar languages, for example.
