Here's an interesting forum game that I just thought of. In the game forum members make different decisions involving defending a base from a myriad of mythical beings and strange monsters. Anything is possible in this game.
How the game works: I will post a crappy map indicating the area you're supposed to defend (drawn with MS paint), and you get to make desicions involving what to do to next.
The game progresses in "turns". In each turn you get to make as many actions as you have squads in play (the number of red squares in your base indicates the number of your active squads), effectively comitting a single squad for a single task.
Every turn, I'll post a new map depicting the situation of the given turn. Your squads increase as your base evolves for certain reasons.
Decisions can be made by everybody, but if there are too many the action with the most supporters wins. Quick and simple, no real commitment to the topic is necessary.
Rules: There are no rules. What happends in the game comes from my imagination. If you can think of some new cool content to add, tell me about it and it might become a part of the game.
I'll probably just ignore really idiotic action suggestions, to prevent funny guys from messing up the game.
What are actions?: Basically anything you want to do. You can commit a squad to build things, defend things, kill things, clear things, explore things.. Anything that makes sense.
Exploring more of the map can yield all sorts of discoveries, and you can build anything that is not useless in base defence (we'll make up rules for buildings as we go).
The game begins immediately. Have fun!
Map indications, and what they mean
^This will be updated with time.
Turn1 map
^The compass is to help you with navigating squads (for example: Squad "I" Explore direction [x])
Current situation:
- Base is powered
- No enemies in sight
- All squads operational and healed (str 10) located in [base]
- Generator running and producing two squares of redundant power
- 4 actions are available for the next turn

Alright, cool. You can start posting actions right away.
Edit: If you want any advice on what to do to get things going, consider the situation at hand. Nothing has happened yet. Threat level is absolute zero. You know little about your surroundings and your base is just a bunker and a generator. There's no need for guard duty yet so it would be a good time to put those soldiers to work. Explore, build, stuff like that. |

You can go ahead and start posting what you want the squads to do. All 4 squads are idle at the moment.
Don't worry about any little things like how much distance they can move per turn, or how long does it take to build something. I'll handle those details and make it work. Anybody can command squads, and you will be getting more of them in the future. Quote: Metallo
Ah, the link probably failed when I organized the pictures a bit. Try now, it should be visible. Edit: Updated the map marker list. |

- Squad I commits to building a barbed wire fence around the base (leaving about 10m of space between the base and the fence). This will take several turns, but you can cease construction at any given turn. You can also deconstruct things in the future if the barbed wires are in the way of something.
Entry points will be located in directions [A], [E], [i] and [M]. - Squad II will commit to exploring direction [G] for one turn. 2 actions available for the next turn. |

I'll post the next turns map+situation right after you players get all the previous turn's actions decided. Then you'll see what happened and get to choose what to do next. Edit: Of course, if no-one else is making disicions, you can make more than one in a turn. It's not unfair since there'll always be another turn. |

Squad III will commit to explore the dense forest in direction B/C. Squad IV will commit engage the troglodytes as they move to secure the tunnel entrance in direction O/P. I think that does it for this turn's actions, as one of the squads is still constructing the fence. I'll start a new turn when I get a chance. |

Turn 3 Announcements: - Squad I continued the unfinished construction of the barbed wire fence, construction could not be finished. - Squad II engaged the gretchins and destroyed them, taking minimal casualties [1]. They then moved to the pack of loot and discovered [Ammo mods +2]. Squad II now has a permanent +2 bonus to their attack strength (squad may still be destroyed if their base strength reaches 0). - Squad III explored direction C for approx 40m. They discovered dense forestland, a cliff and a pack of loot! - Squad IV annihilated the troglodytes with no casualties, and moved to secure the natural tunnel entrance. More troglodytes rose from the murky depths! - Squad I spotted a pair of Ogres near the base while constructing the barbed wire fence! Turn 3 map (The pic can be zoomed from the bottom right corner) Current situation: - Base is powered - Squad I has a hostile contact! - Squad IV has a hostile contact! - Squad II is down to str [9]. I don't wanna sound rude, but first of all there is no "Squad B". Second, 10 turrets would take many turns to build, and they would all require power lines to feed them with electricity (hence the generator, which can't support that many turrets at the time). And third, "bushes" is pretty vague, seeing how there are trees nearly everywhere. So I'm afraid I'm going to have to rule that command out. Other than that though, building turrets is a great idea, so you get points for that! |

You can't split squads, but they could just get the loot and then go build the turrets. That'll work just fine. Note that for the turrets to work you'll have to connect them to the generator with powerlines later. This generator only produces 2 units of spare power so it can't handle 3 turrets, but it could handle 2. |

Turn 4 New feature(s) added!: - Weather. You can see the current weather status next to the compass. Weather affects squad (both enemies and allies) movement and effectiveness. Differend kinds of enemies react differently to certain types of weather. - Inventory. You can now see what special equipment is held by which squad. To get a description of the equipment find the turn announcement where the item was said to be found. Announcements: - Squad I engaged the ogres and destroyed them, taking moderate casualties [3]. - Squad II explored direction [A] for approx 50 meters. They discovered a rocky mountainous area. - Squad III moved to the pack of loot and discovered [Makeshift generator (power level 1)]. The generator can be placed anywhere by the squad holding it, and requires no time to build. It can be upgraded normally afterwards. - Squad IV engaged the troglodytes and destroyed them, taking no casualties. The squad explored the underground tunnel and found [something interesting]. Turn 4 map (The pic can be zoomed from the bottom right corner) Situation: - Base is powered. - No enemies in sight. - Squad II is down to str [9], squad I is down to str [7]. All other squads are healed and operational (str [10]). - Generator is running and producing 2 squares of redundant power. - Construction of the barbed wire fence is suspended. Construction can be continued as a normal action. - 4 actions available for the next turn. Inventory: - [Ammo mods +2] -Squad II - [Makeshift generator (power level 1)] -Squad III |
