You just do like normal avatars. That's it.

You usually have to dither/reduce colors though in order to upload it, which can reduce the avatar into a bitter mess.

As long as the animation is less than 30 KB, you should be okay. You can use your computer to check the size of the file... or the site will just give you an error message if it's too big.
