I was really low on cash but wanted this game for the little ones so I bought a SF copy from ebay without the portal thinking that the old portal was going to work. I didn't do my research and found out that the old portal wasn't working on the game. I know this is a long shot but If anyone is nice enough to give away their extra portal to us we would be greatly appreciated thanks.

Yeah, word came out months ago that the new portal was REQUIRED, that the technology changed enough to not work with the old portal. On the plus side the new portal is supposed to work with the old games.

I didn't and won't be buying Swap Force so I can't help, but I'm helping by commenting and refreshing the thread in the thread list, LOL!

You should mention what system you need. XBox at the very least is VERY different than the others. Rumour is that the others are interchangeable, but I would rather be safe than sorry and get one for the console I'm using. If it were me.

Which system do you need it for? I know a bunch of people who thought they'd try to obtain a SF portal and download the game...not saying that's what you're doing though.

Considering the value of the starter packs, "downloading" the game and buying a 'cheap' portal will probably end up costing more than just getting the starter pack!

If you are intending on downloading (I have no reason to believe/disbelieve this) then I would advise against it. Ignoring all the moral and/or legal issues it's simply not worth it financially! Better to pop in and buy the starter set and have the original.

That said, I made the mistake of getting the 3DS SSA without portal on ebay and having to then buy Giants WITH portal on eBay (neither being the starter set!). After I added it up with figure costs "trying to save money" on eBay cost me nearly double what the starter set and portal owners pack would have cost

My firm advice is ignore eBay and go right to your nearest games store for the Starter pack. Not only does it work out better value but the experience is nicer than dealing with eBay.

If you wait I am sure many portals will start to appear. Does anybody know if the Swap Force 3DS portal has a USB port on it for the PC like the Giants/SSA one did?

Okay, I usually find it's best to take such stories at face value. Instead of assuming they're hiding their true intentions, what they're really doing, figure that it's what they're saying, unless their story is full of holes. And "bought it on eBay but it didn't include the portal" is quite believable to me, it just means the seller is an idiot who was too much of a jerk or a moron to include the portal. Or maybe he just wanted an extra/spare portal.

Oh, and people, note that the OP says he BOUGHT the game. He's not planning to, he already did it. Too late to do it otherwise (if it wasn't too late, he even says himself what's wrong with this plan, he wouldn't do it).

My comments were on the concept in general, not suggesting the OP specifically did any of those things.
Like I said at the end, I am sure there will be portals stating to appear on ebay later on in the games life cheap like they did with SSA and Giants, but if he doesn't want to wait the best value answer is still to just buy a starter pack, maybe for another system if the portal is compatible and he has both...

I am getting a Wii U Christmas probably so will end up getting at least one more SF with portal, 2 more if I cave in and buy the 3DS one too.

I listed the the game on ebay and I ended up buying a starting pack from TRU today thanks for all the replies topic is now closed
