Do I really have to open a thread to ask why my thread was deleted again?
I thought we went through this last time, It's just polite to leave a PM with some reasons. I don't even know who modded my thread into the void to ask them without this public mess.
To the mod involved, please PM me and delete this thread.

No, he's right... When you're being reprimanded - in whatever form - it's only common decency to let you know WHY, just so that you can avoid doing it again.
Are you sure it wasn't just moved to another forum? Or had the subject changed?

It is quite possible it was moved/changed, but how would I know?
A PM would have been nice Plus, I don't think I broke any rules anyway. Would be nice to at least defend myself. |

I agree with him - I meant that it was lame that it happened all over again.

There is a link on the Settings to where you can find the reason for your post or topic's deletion. In this case I have to say I'm confused as to why you are even wondering why it was deleted, hacking Skylanders clearly falls under illegal activity.

Hacking Skylanders DOES NOT fall under illegal activity.
Firstly while the law varies country to country, there is no law in any country that stops me doing what I want with my own toys in the privacy of my own home. In the USA there is the DMCA, which has a specific exemption for reverse engineering encryption for the purpose of software interoperability. As I am writing software to read the Skylander figure data and display it on the PC I am allowed to decode the figures for the purpose of getting this data. So, the stuff I am doing is specifically legal under the DMCA. |

Don't dis the admin, his site, his rules. And it clearly DOES fall under illegal activity. It's been said MANY times. Except it's against the rules to discuss it on the site. |

uhhhh no it doesn't, it only falls under illegal activity if he/she shares the figure data with others. also, just because dark is the admin does not give him a free pass from receiving criticism, and so what if it's his site and rules?, that doesn't mean users can't complain about something. |

Despite it not falling under illegal activity, it is against the rules to talk about stuff like hacking and ROMS on these forums. That's why it was deleted.

it says nothing in the rules about hacking not being allowed and talking about roms is fine on these forums, it's just linking to roms and telling people how to get them is illegal "Don't post links to illegal/pornographic material. It's just in no way approriate for a website based around a game such as Spyro the Dragon. Anyone who does so will be banned immediately. Asking for ROMs will get you a swift ban as well though discussion is allowed as long as you aren't boasting about the fact or you're providing a method for others to get them no matter how cryptic." |

And dark himself said in many other places that you can't discuss it in any shape. And the mods. And yet that says you can discuss.....

I've never recalled saying you can't discuss that stuff. Hell, I've discussed ROMs and their usage before. It's "illegal" to post links to ROMs and other illegal downloading sites. Although to me, this is another clear indication we need to rewrite the rules to eliminate the ambiguity. It just says not to post links about hacking, ROMS, and other illegal activities. Although if the OP was asking for tips in order to hack Skylanders, I suppose that's covered by the rules... >.>

A.) If it's against forum rules to discuss "hacking" (in such a way that you're just showing something off and not providing *any* info on how to do it), then why is it that posts like when Spyro's Adventure was hacked and the sidekicks were discovered allowed? Why did DarkSpyro even *feature* that information, as it came from hacking?
B.) Why is this site concerned with illegal activities when it continues to break the law itself? |

Nothing I have done is illegal, as I said before it is specifically allowed under the DMCA, look it up if you disagree and back up your argument with facts.
Simply saying "It's illegal" isn't an argument, its an opinion. I have provided an actual written law and exemption to back up my side so unless you can show why this isn't the case it clearly remains legal. Also, I wasn't discussing hacking at all. I was asking for help understanding data that I had. This data has already been extracted from a figure. No hacking is involved. This data belongs to me. It is my data. It was generated from my actions within the game, again this is clearly defined in US law. That data belongs to me and I have the right to do with it as I see fit. I can publish the data dump from my figure on the web if I so choose. I can't publish HOW I got it, but that is fine as I don't want to. The fact remains that I can do whatever I want with the data itself, both legally and morally there is no problem. So getting the data is legal but even if it wasn't that isn't what I was discussing anyway. As pointed out, the hacks that discovered sidekicks were not covered up and the information (EXACTLY the same as my data) discovered was not blacklisted any more than discussion ABOUT that information. I have the highest respect for the site and the Mods, especially the hard work they do. What I didn't appreciate was having the thread vanish without a trace. Simply closing it with a comment "You shouldn't be discussing this here" would have done and also help others learn what is/isn't acceptable according to this Mod. |

If that's the case, then he has to rectify the rules. It stated nowhere in site rules that bringing up a discussion about it was ruled out, as long as you aren't actually linking to it. >.> It even says, right here: "though discussion is allowed as long as you aren't boasting about the fact or you're providing a method for others to get them no matter how cryptic." Pyrofer said that he was not planning to distribute the information and is a fairly trustable member. If he did go against his word, I think that would be a more appropriate time to close the subject. He was basically doing something similar to Skylanders Editor- just figuring out how to read/edit stats, gold etc- and I've seen that mentioned more than a few times without getting bleeped out.

Just for those who care about facts instead of FUD, Here is the part of the DMCA that makes what I am doing legal,
"Section 1201(f) allows a person or business to reverse engineer a computer program and bypass technological protections for the purposes of creating other applications that will work with that program" My program designed to display figure data is specifically covered by this section. There is nothing illegal, immoral or wrong in any way with what I am doing. It is also not against published forum rules. |
