'This is NOT good...,' Sayan thought as he observed the scene. He then proceeded to sneak towards the fallen keys, taking the same hidden route as the owl had previously done. 'I can't let this happen to you nor anyone...,' he further thought as he slowly approached the keys.

"AAAAARG!" Scratch screamed, fluttering and kicking, throwing a tantrum worthy of a Tasmanian Devil. He even let a few tears in disappointment, but swiftly cleaned them away. He started headbutting and pecking the bars, realizing with pain that it was no use. Right after his mad fist was over, he sat down, panting and a little embarrassed of making such a scene in front of a lady like Marahute.

Having almost reached the keys, Sayan looked around to make sure the poacher wasn't around. The coast appearing to clear, he gently picked the keys with his mouth. He then proceeded to slowly walk towards the cages, hoping that the keys wouldn't jingle too much and alert the poacher. 'Now... which key goes to which cage?' he thought as he slowly made his approach.

"Aww, look who's decided to play hero now." the owl whispered. "This is all your fault. Everything was going great, but you had to show your spotty whiskers and ruin everything!" Scratch scolded, still whispering but clearly with a higher voice...

"Would you rather I leave you here instead?!," Sayan whispered back while still holding the keys in his mouth. "Now calm down while I attempt to fix my wrongdoings!," he continued as he made his way to the owl's cage. He chose one of the smaller-looking keys and used his right paw to stick it into the keyhole, using his left paw against the cage for balance. 'Come on...,' he thought as he attempted to turn the key. He was well aware that the owl's plan might of succeeded as he not intervened.

Hating the idea, but doing as he said, Scratch remained quiet. He viewed it as an order, which he bitterly obeyed. If Sayan did managed to free him, he wouldn't owe him a thing, since it is his fault after all. At least he recognized it, and that was a little thing that the young owl secretly admired of the leopard.

"Don't worry. No-one is getting left behind.," Sayan whispered as he made his way toward the other cage. Finding one of the larger-looking keys, he inserted it into the keyhole and proceeded to turn it. Hearing the lock click, he put the keys back in his mouth and motioned towards exit. "Quickly and quietly...," he whispered as he made his way towards the hidden escape route.

Scratch watched with some hate from another corner, remaining hidden just in case the hunter returned. "Oh what am I mumbling about? I deserve credit for this rescue. If it wasn't for me, the hunter would probably would have focus his attention on that leopard and this rescue wouldn't have been possible. Besides, either way, I could have rescued this eagle if he didn't butt in in the first place." Scratch resumed to assure himself, maybe trying a little too hard to see the positive side of things. He was feeling a lot of hate for the leopard at the moment, as well as a shattered pride for being captured so easily...

Scratch was quick to follow, and opened his beak to say something to Marahute, but shut up at the last second. It was something very important to him, but decided to wait until they have left that forsaken hell that was the hunter's place...

"Grateful for what? For having this leopard appearing at such a crucial moment and nearly ending up as one of that human's sick collection?" Scratch answered, believing that if Sayan didn't show up in such a tense moment, he could have rescued Marahute successfully all by himself.

Scratch let Marahute got a head start, leaving himself behind on purpose. "Hah, what does she know? She is big and powerful, she has no trouble with respect. And what is she talking about? This is as nice as I can get." Scratch complained as quietly as possible. Whatever Marahute meant, he would try to do a better effort to appeal to her and finally complete his objective.

Scratch landed in a nearby branch, still mumbling. He avoided eye contact with Marahute and Sayan, and later decided to go hunt for something to distract himself, bitterly wishing Sayan didn't messed that up too...

A few yards away, Scratch was feasting from some larvae. At least they were put and there wasn't the need to hunt. While eating, he was wondering if Marahute was worth the trouble. She seemed so stubborn. Was it really that hard for her to tell the ones she meet that it was one of his species that saved her? What the heck she wanted him to prove?

Scratch managed to notice that Sayan was feeling bad for what he did, though he was too proud to forgive him. Maybe he will apologize... whenever he felt like it. He despised the leopard for ruining his chance to show off to Marahute. If only he could have rescued her, if only Sayan didn't showed up at that moment, he would have rescued her and there won't be the reason to feel as bitter and hurt as he was right now...

Scratch found the highest branch he could find to experience the nightfall. He couldn't wait for it. "Oh night, the only one that understands me. Those stupid ingrates. And that Mara... whatever her name is! Really now, what is her problem?" he complained, still believing that he deserved full credit for the rescue.

Sayan, meanwhile, walked away from the others. He knew that the owl deserved credit for the rescue, but didn't want to jeopardise his chances of getting that which he desired. He was unsure how both would get what they wanted, but that would wait for later. For now, he found a cozy spot against a tree and laid down. He hadn't really planned ahead of the initial "rescue."

Nero woke up hearing Scratch talking to himself. He then climbed up the tree that Scratch was in and onto the branch. "I know you meen well but you could be grateful for Marahute being here. Some say that seeing her fly can bring good luck and possessing one of her golden feathers will bring your species great respect and glory." Nero said. "But for her to give you one of her feathers you have to be grateful for the things you have."

"Hah, you still haven't got a clue, don't you. I don't have anything to be grateful of. My own family despises me, and everytime I have the chance to do something good for my species, something... or in this case, someone, messes it up. So don't you lecture me about anything!" Scratch demanded, sounding almost like a warning. He then realized that he was telling too much about himself.

"Why am I even telling you this? As if you care. You better butt out of here and let me enjoy the nightfall in peace." the owl then demanded, showing once again his menacing and solitary nature.

He associated sentiments with weakness, something that he never wanted to reach.

"Whew, finally. Night. And I am all alone, with nobody to annoy me. But I'm bored as well. Maybe I'll go find a bat and annoy it." Scratch said in quite a monologue. He liked to bully bats because he believed mammals were forbidden to fly, and that birds and insects should be the only ones.
