I ended up with a new game!

All restored from back up and then my latest game from the cloud but still not a good experience.

14yo now wants to know how i did it.

Any ideas?

Usually that means you logged out of activate and didn't log back on. I guess if you did that, then chose local game over cloud game, then saved to cloud, that would do it.

Did you log back onto activate when you got back?

If the 14yo does not have an activate account only a local one what can he do.

If he deletes the game entirely will the saved data go as well or is it saved separately and reappear with the reinstalled game?

As bjornolf said, it's the saving BACK to the cloud that is the final nail in the coffin. Even if you've saved your local game, your old cloud version is still available to restore from. Once you've saved over the top of that cloud version, it's gone. So don't panic. Unless you've gotten that popup to choose between the two versions, and chose wrong, you're still safe. Your good copy will still be in the cloud.

I do not normally have this problem. I am frequently away from home.

No I never thought of activate as we do not use it as such, we decided not to allow 14yo to use it. I went straight to yesterday's backup.

I think I was short a few gems but on the upside the sanctuaries I just loaded up paid out.

Down side is I have no energy to send them off again.
