The "p" for those who don't know what it means means pixel. It's to make the TV have better resolution. The game can be for 720 pixels, but for the PS3, there is a HDMI cable that can make it have 1080 pixels.

Objection! smilie

In this case, 'p' means progressive.
On the other hand, if it was 1080i the 'i' would mean interlaced.

He's right.

Progressive scan and Interlace scan.

How do they differ?

Progressive scan creates an image frame by frame. This makes it smooth.

Interlaced scan creates images row-by-row of horizontal pixels. This makes it acceptable BUT it can cause image tearing at high action scenes.

That is screen tearing in interlace scans. I had that happen in ANB and TEN.
