Disney Infinity Launch Day Observations [CLOSED]

Post your launch day observations. I went to TRU and saw space equal to Skylanders (but wasn't taking over ANY of their space), and all of the launch stuff was there. My wife saw the 13.99 single price, 30.99 triple pack price and 35.99 play set price and gasped. I was able to find 6 of the TRU exclusive Lightning McQueen figures, but they only had two Lone Star ranger packs.

There was no buyers, but then again church as in. There was a couple of skylanders buyers who bought stuff in the 5 minutes I was there.

Post your stories here.

BTW, I know this is technically Off-Topic for this forum per se but I am hoping to get skyfans to weigh in on day one at the store and your PERSONAL opinion of the game itself if you bought it--you, the hardcore skylander fan. Good, bad, whatever.

TRU-Well the retail space was the same...the disney stuff was buy one get one 50% off. The exclusive discs were sold out by 9. They still had 3 crystal lightning mcqueens. The aisle was full and you could hardly fit in. Employees said there was a line at opening and several incidents where people tried to buy all stock of particular figures--they refused to sell and only allowed one per person. Gamestop line was out the door and they sold out of several figures immediately. Target had a special price on the cars 2pk but it was accidentially street dated 10/15 all over country so they couldnt sell them and pulled them all off floor until resloved "tomorrow or the next day."
---
Please see my guestbook for the remaining packs I need---Any help is appreciated. smilie

So, when sales are 1.5 billion, at what point does this happen? I thought we were kinda there already.

My first observation is that a lot of Skylander fans are very insecure when it come to Disney Infinity. I own every Skylander released except for the 3 new Purple Skylanders and I'm not running around panicking over some competition, competition is a good thing. The actual figures could stand to be a little bit cheaper but that's what happens when you put the Disney name on anything. Plus you can always lower your prices, in business it's very hard to raise your prices without getting a lot of backlash

-The Playsets are pretty reasonable at $35 they are said to be 5 - 7 hours long. We all payed $25 for 1 level which lasted less than 1 hour.

-1 Review does not make a bad game, you can find bad reviews for any game, even games like Super Mario Galaxy and Ocarina of Time.

I personally bought 1 of everything to keep sealed just like my Skylanders, a few packs of power discs and the Villains and Sidekicks triple packs to open. I will be getting more stuff to open very soon, Gamestop was super busy so I just picked up what I had preordered and went home. While I was there another family was buying what looked to be 1 of everything and there were a bunch of other people buying figures and the starter packs. I also went to Toys R us, it was dead I was the only person in the store but I should mention that it is a Toys R Us Express so it is very small and nobody goes there to buy anything, especially videogame stuff.

Day1-Walmart - Infinity looks to be a bust at my Walmart. They only had 2 starter kits (Did not look to see for what system) and they only had the singles minus Randall (Purple lizard from Monsters Inc.). No 3-Packs, Expansion packs, Power Disc or Accessories.

Day1-GameStop - They had only gotten 1 Cars Expansion pack ( it was sold by the time I got there) They had 1 Sidekick pack, 5 Villian packs and 4 Lone Rangers Expansion packs left. They had a box of Power disc also.

My ToysRUs was empty of people.
About 30 pegs full of figures... I only got the Crystal Lightning McQueen and Barbossa, and 2 Power Disk packs.

And what Digital Spy said about Skylanders; It will NEVER outshine the Mario series. They already have about 30 games set into the gaming history books.

My local TRU only had one customer buying Infinity products, and that was me.

Best Buy I went to afterward, not only didn't have everything from launch, but no customers buying the product. So far, it seems to be a huge bust in my area.

I can't say I blame customers, though. Disney is Disney. Same old stuff, just a different day. Couple that with the fact that TRU/Disney pulled a shady move by making their exclusive pack have the same exclusive disc inside (which the ten discs are going to be wave 2 discs anyway, just one can get Mikes Car now instead of October), and the confusing menus for the game itself, and I can see kids being more frustrated by this game, than anything.

Heck, I don't suck at games, but the flying controls are downright horrible in Infinity. DOWNRIGHT... HORRIBLE! I am a master gamer, so imagine what kids will be doing when trying to fly.

OH, GET THIS! Unlike Skylanders, when you claim ownership of an Infinity figure, it resets to level 0 and loses all of its gold. I laughed so hard. Skylanders allows you to switch ownership as much as you want, and the figures still retain all of their data.

Infinity has some HUUUUUUUGE problems. I am kind of regretting buying it. My kids love Minecraft and such, but Infinity's Toy Box really isn't as easy to build with as games like Minecraft and Little Big Planet. Too many buttons involved for little ones if you ask me.

I am not worried about Skylanders stance in all of this anymore. Not after todays lack of people turning out for Infinity and how confusing and ho hum the game is so far... and this is coming from an owner who owns all of wave 1, even all 20 Power Discs... plus Mike's Car.

I played it at Gamestop as they had a guy from Nintendo there to help promote it on the Wii-U and 3DS.

Took us a while to figure out 2 player because if you go into a specific playset you have to have 2 guys from the same playset. Which sounds obvious now, but when the starter pack gives you only 1 from 3 series it means you can't do 2 player IN a playset.

My son really liked playing it, but that was mostly because we were just running and banging into each other.

I did the story mode a little and it seemed ok. Wasn't the greatest, wasn't the worst, it was ok.

Controls were a little weird, took a while to figure out how to drive the car well. But, still not a biggie, just a matter of learning how things work.

A few other kids swapped in with my son and I to play. 2 boys, guessing 10 and 8 were having a good time at it. Also just fighting each other really.

The Skylander and Infinity sections were right next to each other and about the same size. They seemed to have a pretty good stock of each when I got there in the morning, but I checked later on and most of the product was no longer on the shelves.

I pre-ordered it from Amazon already and I'm fine with that. My interest is mostly in the Cars pack so we can use the Toy Box to make our own race tracks.

Some people will like it, some will hate it, some will hate it, then like it.

IMO, Disney owns such a vast collection of characters that as long as the game is marginal, it'll be successful. When Disney Infinity - Star Wars comes out, it'll have the ability to reach epic proportions though.

went to walmart after work this morning and they were pretty packed with everything for inifinity. all figures including randall, triple packs, two adventure packs of lone ranger and cars and no one was buying any of it. they had all the starters and even another display with all the figures on it. its right next to giants section so of equal length.

Edit: after reading that review posted it was on mark i thought it would be. the problem with any game coming out after skylanders is you have to put the same amount of dedication into it, otherwise it's going to fall flat on its face and be seen nothing more as a copy. though infinity has its own originality to it, if they can't design anything worthwhile for it, then why bother? the cars playset is lacking and anyone saying star wars will make it better? there's been a TON of garbage star wars games and marvel ones, it's very easy to keep down the slippery slope infinity seems to be going now.

This is wonderful as I noticed this lately with certain giants figures too. I think by swap force many retailers are going to be doing their best to stomp out the scalping because in a way it does turn away potential customers if people buy up all of the stock so others can't buy any. If this persists there's a good chance there will be less stores having many extras in the future and it'll drive down online prices a bit if everyone has a better chance to get figures.

I bought it for my son so we could play together on the Wii. I got the starter pack and one 3 pack of figures(monster, incredible, pirate) so we could play 2 player co-op. Well to my shocking suprise on the Wii you cannot play co-op in the playsets. You can only play co-op in playsets on HD consoles. On the Wii you can only do 2 player in adventure or toybox. Great that the back of the starter pack shows 2 player for Wii. Needless to say my son was pretty disappointed. Do not buy this for the regular Wii if you want to play the playsets as 2 player. Well at least infinity is no threat to the skylander regular Wii owners.

I went to local TRU (Fayetteville, GA) at 1230pm with my son and there was plenty of DI everything. When we first walked into the store, there was a DI archway that we had to walk through. I talked to a clerk and he said they had a stream of people, but hardly anyone lined up at 8am. He figures people were still in church, so it would probably pick up later.

One observation that I read is that parents aren't really looking to spend disposable income on video games. Parents are still thinking about vacations and back-to-school. So, video games are low man on the totem pole. Now, if DI came out in October, like Skylanders, then we may have seen something. Although, when Skylanders first came out, it was slow to catch on too.

Off-topic. I get that most users see DI as a similar product to Skylanders and all, but I know you guys can try and keep them separate without posting DI-related topics in the Skylanders merchandise section all the time.

This will be like skylanders no one really knew what the game was like till someones friend got it for christmas and they seen what it does. Its going to br no different just wait n see this will be a slow burn at first but eventually it will go BOOM and take off like skylanders did come closer to christmas! The only other reason it won't sell as good is because parents invested a ton of cash into skylanders and really don't want to spend money on something that may be similar in concept.

My honest opinion on this game is that it is a bid let down. I wan't all that excited for it from the get go. Anywyas, probably throwing my stuff up on Ebay to start to cash flow my stuff for Giants.

The camera in the game is annoying and jumping onto the wires can be annoying too, along with ledge jumping.

Edit:

Wickedrunt... No. Everyone knew this game was/is out. It is not lying around like Skylanders was and then going to take off.

I think a major problem with this game is going to be price. The figures are $13.99 each, 3 packs are $30.99 and play sets are $35.99. And that's not factoring in the discs you need to buy, which are, what, $3.99 per blind two-pack? Money is going to be a serious factor, even amongst die-hard Disney fans.

I have no intention of ever playing it. I went out and bought a couple of figures I liked, because of Toys "R" Us's sale, but I have no intention of getting into it simply because there's too much collecting to do and I don't really feel like getting involved in such a money suck, or the searching for exclusives (scalpers were clearly out in full force at all the Toys "R" Us stores today). Not to mention the super event exclusives, like Sorcerer Mickey. At least Activision has the decency to confine their event exclusives to variants of already existing figures, rather than making the event exclusive the only way to get the figure.

Anyway, that's just how I feel about things; I can't speak for anyone else. Beyond picking up the occasional figure of a character I like, I'm genuinely not interested, whereas I'm actually looking forward to seeing what Swap Force has to offer in the Fall.

I got to TRU late and, for once, it paid off. The store employees were just setting the displays up and there were boxes and boxes of everything everywhere. I bought a few TRU power disc packs and a TRU Crystal Lightning McQueen, just in case my son or nephews want me to buy the game later. However, I also went to Target, Gamestop and Walmart and the shelves were already looking rather empty.

Bingo. Especially from those here whom I have had numerous and great conversations on from Skylanders; I would rather respect my peers honest reviews rather than a new set of strangers on another forum. We are officially in "rubber meets the road" part...all of the speculation now becomes reality.

Frankly, I want the "toys to life" category to succeed beyond skylanders. Im a bit worried about there only being so much money to go around, but if they target different demographics and NOT produce sub-standard drivel we should all be strapped in for a wild ride. I'm going to see some youtube videos and see additional reviews before I weigh in on Infinity "final answer". I'm shocked there was no working demo game in the stores to test drive; has anyone been able to do this yet without purchase?

First of all, why on earth would they let one individual do something like this?

Second, how can an adult enter a toy store, buy all the inventory of a single item from the shelves and NOT feel embarrassed, or ashamed of themselves? I know I would if I did something like that.

People scalp all the time. If it doesn't sell they return it to the store.

We sold maybe 1 Wii starter and a Lone Ranger set, nothing else. Not sure why that one is so popular, the movie was terrible.

I know people scalp all the time, that still doesn't explain why they're allowed to do it. Regardless of the various "business is business" explanations people come up with, it does still hurt store traffic if one person is allowed to buy all of a store's inventory of something.

As for the Lone Ranger set, I can't speak for anyone else, but I like it because the figures look nice. I haven't seen the movie and likely don't intend to.

Sounds like Infinity is off to a bad start. I really think all the hype for the game (which honestly, isn't much) will fade out in a few months. I've mostly only seen adults or are Disney fans buy this and review it...not any kids. I'm glad it's failing though....the prices are ridiculous. When you include tax, a single figure is gonna cost you about 15 bucks...and you can only use it in the toy box or it's respective world. At least with Skylanders you can use any character you want at any time you want..

Four people there at open. Everyone bought one of each or less. Many Crystal Mcqueens left at 6:00pm when we went back for more disks.

WANTED: regular Chompie Mage. Can be loose. We will open and play with it like all of our Skylanders.

It seems that even for toy box mode you'll have to grind for the over 1,000 items necessary to build functional maps. It appears they've mixed in required tools with aesthetic ones, so you could be doing this for DOZENS of hours. Kinda reminds me of doing heroics.

I was shocked to read a review about some of the obvious technical glitches. No doubt Skylanders have them too, but I'm honestly shocked that software has gotten either so complex (or testing cycles so constrained) that this type of blatantly obvious stuff creeps in.

RIP GhostRoaster. He's reanimated as TakeYourLemons but occasionally is resurrected from the beyond when needed.

Mind listing some of the glitches?

I don't want to tick anyone off, but after seeing many reviews and even the Skylandersdad and boy and girl not like the game, all I can say is I knew this game didn't stand a ghost of a chance. Also I was surprised the game was more boring looking than I thought it would be. The intro seems like the only part that seemed fun in all honesty.

I agree with this 100% (although I though the Skylander Kids liked it? Have they played/reviewed it yet?) And if you think the console versions are bad, you should see the disgraceful 3DS version...they're just Mario Party clones..the problem with the game is that it's trying to do SO MANY different things, and none of them are well executed...except maybe the toy box, but that has it's own problems. I can only see kids playing toy box for maybe 15 minutes until they get frustrated with the confusing controls and quit. I knew this game was gonna fail...so glad I resisted the urge to buy it (I'm a huge Disney nerd/fan so it was quite hard!)

I played Infinity most of the day, and while Pirates is cool, the Toy Box Mode is baffling. My kids can usually jump in Minecraft and get down on some building, but today, they kept getting frustrated at all of the menus.

Infinity isn't really kid friendly, which is crazy seeing as that's the demographic they're trying to reach.

My youngest daughter didn't care to play with them on the base. She wanted to play with them as toys. However, she loves playing Skylanders.

I honestly don't know why I worried about Skylanders due to Infinity. Negative reviews have been spot on about the game.

Wow... I had some growing interest in the game, especially with my impending exit from Skylanders by not continuing with Swap Force... But all the pictures I've seen have included "incompatible" characters together, like Captain Jack Sparrow running with Sully, that kind of thing. But you can't mix and match, really? REALLY? I was looking forward with bringing in the wrong characters into areas! Which means the more sets you have, the more characters you need to be able to have a choice/variety while playing the main game.

Pathetic. My interest has dwindled to almost nothing, I'd be satisfied to just try it in the store now.
