Signature counter incorrect? [CLOSED]

I'm trying to change my signature, and the counter said I had 149. I clicked submit, and it said it was to many characters at 157.

I count 147.

EDIT: Unless a new line counts as 2, then I count 149, so it's not the counter, but the aftermath.

EDIT2: I took out the periods, so now it works, but I think that the aftermath says that it's 8 characters over what the counter and counting it by hand says.

EDIT3: I'm gonna do a test.

EDIT4: It's something to do with ALT characters or Italics or Quotation marks, because the test says that the counter says 155, and the aftermath says either that or less.
