Honestly, it is pure luck to find one. There is nothing special you can do to find one. I have been looking for one just as long as you have, and all I have been able to find are the "common" chase variants, such as Blue Bash or GITD Sonic Boom.

Skylanders Collection 78 S1 + 37 S2 + 16 S3 + 1 S4 + 19 LC + 8 Minis + 12 G + 25 SF + 13 TM + 2 EE + 34 Traps + 39 Items = 284 + 11 Chase = 295 Total |

Either pay over $100, or go to every single store in your area, every day for a month. Even then, you won't get them.
You need to look through every single box they have. Good luck..

It's like winning Powerball to find one, or at least where you match 3 of the 5 numbers. Even after looking through every box---if you don't get there before the staff gets to it...I think your odds are better at Vegas.

RIP GhostRoaster. He's reanimated as TakeYourLemons but occasionally is resurrected from the beyond when needed. |

Pure luck.
I was lucky twice, if you call an E3 Hot Dog a true variant, make it 3. I found a Stone Zook at Walmart and bought a GITD Wrecking Ball for $40 on EBay. I also bought a Bronze Hot Dog from a Game Stop Employee for $70. I figured it was worth it since at the time they were going for $120-$200. |

I found a Blue Bash and Red Drill Sergeant in stores (from TRU and Walmart respectively), bought a Bronze Flameslinger and GITD Sonic Boom online (from Amazon and Walmart respectively), and won a Flocked Stump Smash. Nothing too spectacular.

Wish I could help, I have never seen a chase variant in "the wild" yet.
Chase variant refers to a variant that's randomly packaged and a luck of the draw, things like GitD Sonic Boom/WERDS/alter egos etc. are just regular variants because they come as their own shipment

The only thing I can think of is to find out when your stores get their shipments, or rather what day and time they go on the shelves (like every Tuesday at noon). Then be there when the figures go on the shelves, or as soon as possible after. Also there's rumours that anything that arrives at Gamestop gets picked clean of variants before it goes on the shelves, that you can only get variants THERE if you spot it coming out of the box and demand it.

Simply put: you either have to just get super lucky, like this little girl:
Or, you have to have a significant relationship with someone who has direct access to stockrooms and warehouses for a major "big box" retailer. If you've never seen a "chase" variant in a store, you really shouldn't feel like you're being "left out" or anything like that. There's dozens of avid Skylanders fans on this forum who have made hundreds of visits to a large number of retail store locations and never once seen a "chase" variant on the shelf. It's a total crapshoot. Kinda like getting a straight flush in Texas Hold 'Em Poker.

I always have had to purchase my variants via ebay. About a month ago I actually found a white flocked Eruptor at my local Target. He was sitting right up in front of all the other figures on the pegs. I never thought I would ever find one in the wild. With persistence and ALOT of luck your searches may actually pay off.

Either continue to dig through shelves- Know someone who works in retail really well- or buy one on ebay.
I got a GITD Zap Variant from the first game but I had to get it from ebay- It was nice to own while I had it but.... Sadly I've never found a variant in-store myself. :/ Its all luck really-

Have connections with stores and you MIGHT get lucky.
Only varients I own are in game varients Polar Whirlwind (gamestop skylander festival which we found out about from the main clerk) and Gnarly Tree Rex single (The main clerk called us and said that they had something special for us)
