This is one of the things I think about. You know think of a character this character/animal/person reminds you of. For an example:

Rainbow Dash and Sonic the hedgehog.

Both characters are extremely fast, blue, friendly, have pink followers (Pinkie Pie and Amy), and can be cocky.

The things that set them apart are gender, species, and eye color.

They both have many variations, they can both have red
Differnt species, one can talk.
