I was wondering, how does one find the skylander variants w/o official artwork, and is there a (collective) name for them? If you don't know what I mean, I'm talking about glitter ,, and . Also the flocked ones (Rock too!). How do you find them? Luck?

What?
They don't have ANY official artwork, and you just called them by the collective name. Rock Zook, Glitter Sprocket, etc. And those names are not on the card nor the box.

Thanks. But are they just randomly packaged? How do you find one?

They randomly come in the boxed shipments. No store knows what they are going to get. It's pot luck. So--if the stores don't even know what they are getting you can imagine how rare they are to find. Then there are all sorts of other things stacked against finding them in retail stores such as---employees that know how valuable they are and so they never make it to the floor. Also, the scalpers who make a living hunting daily for them and buying all the see.
I've looked---a lot--and others have looked much longer and harder than I have and ---nothing! I'd encourage you to try but to manage your expectations, and---if you really want one--look on eBay and craigs list until you find a price that you are willing to pay. That's all I know. I wish I had something better to say about it. But the system is not geared towards kids and collectors. Good Luck and I look forward to seeing a post from you when you find one!

Yeah, I'm not too sure anyone that doesn't work for Activision/Blizzard has concrete numbers on how many of each variant are actually released onto store shelves, but it's my understanding they randomly throw a chase variant into a box and wherever it ends up......that's where it ends up. It's like winning the lottery.......with more work involved.

That's why they're called Chase Variants.
I've found 3 in stores; the Rock variants and Clear Stealth Elf.

It's like willy wonkers golden ticket, just you have to hope the ppl opening the wave boxes of singles/giants don't take them for themselves and they make it to the floor.
Seems there at least some dude finding them here in NY by me, this one online guy has 3 variants and lives a town over. |

Just hoping I get lucky with my full run tomorrow. There's nothing like watching your girlfriend bolt halfway across a store to grab a rare one, not caring if she bowls over small children.

I've opened a ton of cases at several different retailers and have never managed to see one fresh out of the case.
I still think Activision should make their distribution as a reward for registering your figures online or something. Like 1/500 people who register Sprocket get a Glitter Sprocket. But then, there's all kinds of rules and regulations that kick in regarding contests and such... |
