I was just wondering if people leave their portals plugged in at all times even when not playing Skylanders? Do you think it would affect the longevity of the portals life if one did? I leave mine on but am questioning its logic.

I unplug the one to the Wii, otherwise the light on the portal stays on. As for the Xbox, I leave it plugged in because it does not stay lit for the Xbox.

We unplug ours from the wii most of the time. Sometimes my son lines to have the light of it through the night.

Usually I leave it plugged in b/c it's the only game I play but if I don't plan on playing the game over a session I do in fact unplug it (but keep it beside my system).

I like to leave mine plugged in all the time too...usually with a lightcore or giant on it.

That's interesting...is there a mean time between failure (MTBF) calculation for the LEDs inside the portal? I haven't even thought about those failing or how long it would take.

Mine has been plugged in nearly 24/7 since I bought SSA in April/May 2012, so over a year. The only time I unplug it is when I pack up my XBox and stuff to go play Skylanders with my nephews, when my brother's family visits my mother or I go visit them. So naturally even at those times it isn't unplugged for long, LOL! I hadn't considered the lifespan of the lights, but I believe they're LEDs, and those live a LONG time.

And even if they do, technically the portal should still function.

Longer than you will care about the game, and if Activision keeps giving us good reasons to keep buying the Starter Pack instead of the Portal Owners we will probably be replacing it with each new game. LEDs last a very, very long time because they generate next to no heat which is what usually causes failure. |
