I think that there shouls be a skylanders themed chess. I will post ideas on what charcter could be what piece.

CHESS PIECES LIST (TO BE CHANGED)

White Side/ Good Guys
Pawns: Mabu (e.g. Blobbers, Rizzo, Nort, etc etc)
Rooks: A Giant definitely, like Tree Rex or Crusher.
Knights: Pretty obvious, Fright Rider.
Bishops: One could Be Cali and The other could be Flynn
Queen: Maybe Chill.
King: Eon or possibly spyro.

Black Side/ Bad Guys
Pawns: All the Spell Punks! (there are 8 pawns and 8 different spell punks so it would work)
Rooks: Chompy-Bot 9000
Knights: Cyclops on Slobbering Mutticus
Bishops: Maybe the Chompy Mage or glumshanks
Queen Evil Drow witch
King (or to be exact, Emperor) Kaos!

What do you think?

My son and his friends play Skylanders chess---every weekend--not sure what figures they use for the different pieces. But they love it!

Please see my guestbook for the remaining packs I need---Any help is appreciated. smilie

Kinda similar, my son and I created our own SkyStones game. We printed out a bunch of images of skystones, glued them to poster cards and made a little 3x3 board. We got some colored glass discs to place on top to indicate who owned that piece.

You could probably do similar. It's certainly not 3d, but could be cool.

Black Queen: Drow Witch. smilie

(Not many female bad guys, huh?)

White King: Lightning Rod

I don't like Eon as king simply because he isn't a figure, we've only seen him as a floating head. Lightning Rod's bearded face, crossed arms and big demeanour make him very kingly. I don't like Spyro because he doesn't seem kingly, and he's squat, being a quadruped.

I like Tree Rex for one rook and Crusher for the other. If they must match, gotta be Crusher. With his rock-iness he suits the stone castles nicely. YEARS ago I had a computer game called Battle Chess. It was regular chess, but the pieces came to life to walk to their spaces and would fight eachother during captures (the one who SHOULD win would win), and when the rooks came to life they looked remarkably like Crusher, they'd turn into a rock beast. smilie

For the Black bishops, I again can't decide, both sound great... Chompy Mage as he's a funny little guy, and fairly bishop-y, and an actual functional enemy, Glumshanks as he's a more prominent character in the games, and he has a tall skinny wiry build.

Otherwise, excellent choices for pieces, LOL! If I had the artistic ability I'd start carving these out of wood or something. smilie
(Real Skylanders would make this a large and expensive set, plus all the characters who don't exist as figures. Too bad the McDonald's figures are only 9, and almost only Skylanders, would have been handy to use for this)

I have updated the page with the evil drow witch suggestion. I don't like lightning rod for a king though because well, Eon is more like the king of the skylanders but he could be like in SSA intro before he was blasted to bits.

I think that Glumshanks should be the queen (Mario Chess has Luigi as queen), Chompies/Trogs (Mix of both) should be the pawns, and the Spell Punks/Trogmanderers should be the Bishops.

Not a bad idea, but I just thought that having Spell punks as pawns would give the set a little bit more character. And I would rather have evil drow witch for a black queen because if a lil kiddie gets it they will say Oh haha glumshanks is a girl cuz hes the queen and i think glumshanks has been laughed at enough already.

Why are the black ones bad and the white ones good?

I'm guessing traditional color association. Also many novelty chess sets such as this typically use white for the good characters and black the evil ones.

Though if memory serves, the opposite is actually true for a yin/yang.

Yeah, I've seen a White=Good, Black=Bad chess set before, but I'm drawing a blank as to what universe. I want to say Smurfs, but I can't remember there being enough bad guys to make an evil side. Actually, it might have been Mario, LOL!

Especially in Westerns, the guys in white/with the white hat are traditionally the good guys, the black hats are the bad guys. It's simply a way of making a choice (especially as white goes first, which seems appropriate for the good guys). smilie

Also, another thread gave me an idea: Making this on a 3D Printer. I was thinking if I wanted this I would have to find some artistic ability and try to carve them out of wood or something, LOL! 32 figures carved by hand? Plus I'd want to give a set to my nephews, 64 figures carved by hand... Yikes! Now, if only I could get this designed on a computer with a 3D Printer. smilie

And I do see your point against making Lightning Rod the king, only Eon and Spyro have a logical reason to be king. LOL! And Eon is also quite kingly with his white beard and such. I can't remember seeing him in full form, only as a head... Though it's been a LONG time since I started a game of SSA...

i know I've seen Mario with White=good, and Black=Bad. I've alaso seen this color pattern used with a special CLAMP set of chess figures using characters from various manga series published by CLAMP.

In the SSa first cutscene he is wearing light blue robes and a sash with all the known elements.

Off-topic: As I understand it, Yin and Yang are two different forces that work in harmony, not opposing forces. It's been a long time since I've looked into this subject but I've seen that one around most often, with the "grey" force representing the chaos in between Yin and Yang(can't remember name right now).
Quote: Wikipedia
Yin and yang are actually complementary, not opposing, forces, interacting to form a whole greater than either separate part; in effect, a dynamic system. Everything has both yin and yang aspects, (for instance shadow cannot exist without light). Either of the two major aspects may manifest more strongly in a particular object, depending on the criterion of the observation.
