I saw a similar thread about Wii U, PS4, and XBO, so I thought I'd start one about the handhelds of the next gen, the 3DS and the Vita.
I'll start with myself:

Well, I already got a 3DS XL and a few games, which i'm enjoying. However, I'm not going to want a Vita just yet, but i'll keep an eye on new Vita releases until at least three games get my interest. (i.e. a good Sonic game and two other games of choice.)

What device are you going to get this gen? Do you only have one? Are you Lucky/Rich enough to afford both? Did you get one system one year and plan the get the other sometime in the future? What games do you plan to buy with the system you get?

Feel free to tell about any stories regarding one or both of the handhelds.

i think the Vita's problem is that it has already been out for a bit and there are STILL no games out for it that are very interessting. I got a 3DS cause of pokemon...is there really any other reason to get one? lol

That's all I can remember right now, but there are quite a few more. The Vita has a smaller library than the 3DS, but saying it has no games at all is a stretch. And on top of Vita exclusives, there are the cross-compatible games on PS3 and Vita. In some cases, the Vita version comes free. Plus, you can download PSone and PSP games onto it, which is great. You could have the first 3 Spyro games in your pocket if you wanted! There is also the advantage of free Vita games from PS Plus.

That being said, I don't prefer the Vita, I like the 3DS & Vita equally. 3DS has a nice library, and a bigger one than the Vita, but keep in mind that developing a game for the Vita takes longer because it's a much more powerful system than the 3DS, which is part of the reason why games don't come out as quickly on Vita.

just my opinion none of the games listed are very interesting to me. Other than God of War pretty much no Sony game really grabs my attention <.<

3DS for sure.

I already have a 3DS and don't plan on getting a Vita anytime soon, but it does look interesting, and if I was a Playstation guy instead of a Nintendo guy, I would probably have one instead of a 3DS.

3DS I thought buying it would help Nintendo make games.

never really liked the vita

I have a 3DS, but I do want to get a Vita.

I bought vita two months ago because 3ds don't have games that I like. I don't like mario or zelda. I played enough mario games when I had nes. snes, ds and wii and the only zelda game I ever completed was twilight princess. I also don't want to play games like professor layton or some jrpg games so the 3ds has nothing to offer me.

But with vita and ps+ I got uncharted, gravity rush, virtue's last reward (also for 3ds btw) and rayman legends. I also have bought modnation racers, unit 13, little deviants, reality fighters, silent hill: book of memories, persona 4 golden and got little big planet with my vita.
I also use it almost every night to surf the web before I go to sleep and because of remote play function I can watch movies or play psone games that are on my ps3 hard drive.

So for me the vita was the right choice.

Mmm... I don't know, but If I have to take one, I'll take PS Vita >.<

Haven't tried the 3DS, but I like the games it has. So far the games on the Vita are pretty fun and look amazing, so I have hope for the Vita. I guess I like them both equally, but if I had to choose, I would choose Vita.

3DS. I don't tell people I have a Vita even though I do because it's really nothing of interest to me. I'm planning on selling it as I use my PSP 1000 much more often...

Metal Gear Solid Snake Eater 3D is a game I don't recommend. I like it, but it's not the same for me, as I have the Vita Collection of MGS 2/3, and Snake Eater is so much better on Vita IMO

3DS. I haven't played Vita

I have a 3ds and I will be getting a vita for my birthday (so 3 months) but I would choose the vita because it has waaaaaay better graphics

I have had the vita for a while and I think it's a tie but I haven't played the 3ds for a while

3DS for the quality of games, Vita for better graphics and it's many exclusives IMO

I would say 3DS, as I hate Sony. And 3DS has better exclusives. MUCH better exclusives. I hate Sony because they only have one good series. I don't have either though, but I really want a 3DS.

Whatever takes your fancy, as both are just as good. 3DS may have more games due to being out longer, but you can't argue with the benefit of Vita having PS Plus, and as a result, monthly free games.

It could be argued that with the PS4 coming out soon, the Vita will set a bit more since it has the connectivity to play PS4 games on your Vita, and with Vita TV coming out then people will be able to play Vita games on that and PS4 games via Wifi. So, Vita as an accessory to the PS4 could be good, Vita as a console on it's own? Might not be worth it ever to be honest.

Well, it does connect with some PS3 games too, like UMVC3. As for which one I like more, I would have to say the Vita. Sure it has less games than the 3DS, but the Vita's have more quality IMO. Games like PS AllStars, Killzone Mercenary, Resistance: Burning Skies, and The Walking Dead are proof of this. I will give props to the 3DS for having great games like Snake Eater 3D, Dream Drop Distance, Ocarina of Time 3D, and Resident Evil: The Mercenaries and Revelations though. Also, unlike the 3DS, the Vita can cinteract with a handful of games on the PS3 and also will probably have a major role with the PS4. The 3DS doesn't interact with the Wii or Wii U as far as I know, with the exception of SSB4. Besides gaming, the Vita also has superior internet than the 3DS does. Oh and did I mention that it has YouTube too? With 3G connection?

If we are going to be objective:

Best specs: Vita, by far
Best sales: 3DS, by far
Cross-connectivity features: Vita's are much better, 3DS hardly has any

Though aside from that, it's up to the consumer.

I only want game consoles For the games. Not Netflix capability or fancypants graphics, just core games, and in turn their gameplay. So I got a 3DS, and I have alot of fun with it. Because isn't that what gaming is all about? Nowadays it's all about the guns and violence...can't we just go back to the glory days and remember playground arguements about Mario and Sonic and chatting about Pokemon?

We're just presenting objective points because they are relevant. As I said, it's truly up to the consumer and their choice in games.

That doesn't work. You can't "consider" the 3DS to have better spec, because it physically doesn't. It is a fact that the Vita has better spec. You can choose not to care that the Vita has better spec because you think the 3DS has better games - which is fine and not anything I disagreed with - but the specs of a system are fact.

When I say specs I mean comparable aspects of the system that they both share but the Vita does better. The amount of RAM, the size of it's game cartridges, the number of clock cycles per second of the processor, the resolution and quality of the screens etc - all of these are better on the Vita.

Oh, I was thinking of a different kind of spec, for that kind, the Vita would be better. Sorry.

The 3DS has more fans, as sales go towards representing this. And you don't have to spend long looking at any forum to see the amount of people who are more interested in a 3DS.

In fact, the Vita gets a lot of unfair hate, if anything, as it is actually a nice piece of hardware with some really good games, and as I mentioned before, the free games through PS Plus (which are always top quality games).

I don't know where you have been hearing that. I've heard more people talking about how a Vita is a failed system. And I hang around in a lot of places.
I don't share their thoughts. Like I said, I enjoy the game it has had so far and I have faith that it'll kick in when the PS4 steps in.

Vita has better specs, but that doesn't matter at all right now. The 3DS actually has content while the Vita sleeps. I'd rather take a console that is paid attention to than one with better specs and nothing to use those "amazing" specs on. It's a huge waste and Nintendo only shows than specs don't make a system. Sure, you have a quad-core 1GHz processor in that polished case, but for what? If anything, it's begging to be hacked. I am looking forward to porting another OS like Android to mine because it's what it's good for as of now. I'll take my dual-core 600MHz processor with 240p graphics coated in plastic and be on my way.

I specifically said that more sales doesn't mean more fans. That was my main point. And the reason they are more interested in a 3DS is most likely cause they already have a Vita. And the 3DS has a lot of unfair hate too.

You can specifically say that as much as you like, but in the case of the 3DS, those sales are mostly due to the people who love the thing to death.

This is ironic, because you prefer the 3DS by a long shot, yet for some reason, you are adamant about it having less fans than the Vita, even though it's common knowledge that the 3DS is preferred.
