And apparently they've been doing it for 6 years, since Microsoft agreed to release information to the National Security Agency. The surveillance program was leaked Thursday by British newspaper, The Guardian.

In a way, though, I can't help but feel like it was necessary. It's either do this, or have no info at all to stop potential terrorists..................even though it clearly failed to catch the Boston bombers and any of the gunmen from all the shootings last year...

Without any judicial order, the administration now seeks to stop me exercising a basic right. A right that belongs to everybody. The right to seek asylum.

In the end the Obama administration is not afraid of whistleblowers like me, Bradley Manning or Thomas Drake. We are stateless, imprisoned, or powerless. No, the Obama administration is afraid of you. It is afraid of an informed, angry public demanding the constitutional government it was promised — and it should be.
I am unbowed in my convictions and impressed at the efforts taken by so many.

This is part of why I'm honestly rather skeptical on the whole Snowden thing, but just because it's old news does not mean it should be written off so quickly and doesn't make it right.

I think it's great this is getting some attention, finally, but it's really strange that snowden has gotten so much media attention. It makes me wonder if it's a distraction from other things, or if this whole thing with him is fabricated. (Model girlfriend? ok)

The fixation the world today has on the media makes it a rather deadly tool, and it has always really been used questionably by the government, whistleblowers and theorists.

The whole flight fiasco was indeed a clever move...perhaps Snowden was just testing the waters to see what he is now in control of.

The fact that Snowden has been in contact with Assange means that any other documents Snowden might've all already been passed over. Or, more likely, told Assange, considering consequences...

Of course, some of the former message mostly assumes that the whole ordeal is at least mostly legitimate, and if not, I'll leave it up yous to fill in the blanks about what this possibly could really be about.
