Well, it doesn't bother me that much, but it might be a tad dangerous for the uninformed. I'm currently leveling up my replacement that I got today from Activision. (Why a replacement? That's a kind of a long story.) Is there a way I could smooth out that pointy bit without losing any paint/plastic? I really don't want to consume more time leveling up a new S2 fresh from Activision (I'm not saying that's a bad thing, but it's still time consuming, though.) Or should I just leave it alone? I was thinking of sanding it down with sandpaper, but I don't want to lose any paint, so your input would be appreciated. I'll update with links to pics as soon as I can.
UPDATE: 5-7-2013

Where is it pointy? If it's just a piece of plastic on the side, you can break it off.

The pointy bit is on one of the wings on his water jet-pack. As I said, I'll try to provide links to pics as soon as I can. I'm at my grandma's right now, and I don't really have access to my S2 right now. and BTW, he came in the box with the pointy bit.

Yeah, pics would help. It SOUNDS like this pointy bit shouldn't be there, but that it's also possible that it's an honest part of Gill Grunt. Which is it?
The figure is molded in a coloured plastic (though I once saw a pic of an unpainted one where it was also translucent [see-through]), so anything you cut/file off will expose plastic of that colour. How undesirable this is depends on how much area that would expose, and what colour the plastic is. On the plus side, I think the original colour of the figure tends to be one of the colours of the figure, so probably a light blue/cyan for Gill Grunt. Logically it would make sense for it to be one of the character's colours, logically the main colour (again, for Gill Grunt that would by cyan). If it might bother you, TONS of people get model paints from a hobby store to repaint figures and make them custom, try to find the closest colour to that spot and you can touch it up.

I recently cut off the random bit of plastic ont he ear of my scarlet Ninjni, they plastic underneath was a different colour, but its much less notciable than the rough messy plastic
As Niceguy1 says it depends on how much it bothers you . My next plan is to fnd some gold paint and deal with the massve lump of glue on her sword.. |

Seeing the pics, I think you need to teach your camera how to focus, LOL! It's hard to tell, but it looks like it's close to his arm, so
1) His arm might stop it from catching on things very often 2) His arm could make it hard to access to remove it cleanly. Luckily, any spot it leaves behind should clearly be gold, and gold paint should be easy to get to touch it up (and less of a waste, more likely to become useful again later)

Well, the pointy bit was on one of the fins on his jet-pack, and I used an external webcam I had laying around to take the pics, so I'll probably try again with a better camera, I suppose.
