I think at first Malefor will be going buckwild what with his new body and all and will not think about Spyro. He probably won't know until Hunter frees Spyro, Cynder, and Sparx (im assuming Hunter does this) and some of his servants have been killed.

Agreed. If he knows, he would destroy the crystal himself and kill Spyro while he is unprepared after the long sleep.
Maybe he is afraid of the purple dragon and sends the Golem, or otherwise he sends it 'cause he thinks that Spyro is so weak that the Golem will deal with him easily... who knows?
