Which... just flat out sucks. So Sony won't be blocking used games, but other developers (i'm looking at you EA) might be able to? That's... not winning me over, Sony.
Well, I don't know if this is entirely true but Sony already has the patent for it, pointless to not use it.
I'm sorry, the moment you use
Tom Preston as a reliable source of information is the moment you should take a step back. It has been announced, and could be found on many gaming websites, that the PS4 will
not block used games and that the technology was patented for other purposes, not for the PS4.
They might have even had a system to block pirate games/discs in mind, or it could be for Blu-Ray drives in general (since Sony own the rights to Blu-Ray). It might even be for Microsoft, considering the possibility that they might want to include a Blu-Ray reader in the Nextbox. Microsoft are looking into a system that installs a game onto the hard drive and then tags the disc as 'used' once it has been used once - which is possible giving the tech that Sony patented. Microsoft could be using a modified version of Sony's Blu-Ray reader to block used games and that is what was patented.
