Well, because the temple (and most of the eggs) were smashed to bits in the beginning of ANB, Spyro's parents are presumably dead. But there is a lot of chatter about how everyone would like to see that Ignitus was really Spyro's father, so we won't know until DotD is released.

And I agree with you, Cynder_Rox. I hope we discover what happened to Spyro's parents in the new game.

they died,dragon flys only live for 24 hours,but if so.....then sparx should be dead.....

In the YotD, the faries brought the eggs from far away; at least that's what it said in the booklet. My point is if it didn't tell us then, it probably won't now. Spyro hasn't even been that concerned about his real parents in the last two games.

But if the dragon eggs are delivered by faries from somewhere else, maybe they come from a surplus of eggs laid by other dragons. Or maybe they are composed entierly of magic, made by faries. One last idea: I was readin gthe second book in the Inheritence trilogy, Eldest, and Eragon's mentor said that there is a kind of magic in nature that is wild, powerful, and untamed. Maybe there is something similar in Spyro's world that creates all the dragons out of pure, raw power. Of course I don't know for certain though...

No, but he does look very similar to Spyro (eg. stance, similar spines, tails are becoming rather alike, horns are exactly the same.) And they have a strong father-son bond, so it doesn't really matter whether they're related by blood or not.

Woa, there are so many theories that can be told about Sparx's parents and even more about Spyro's true closest ancestors. More than three years have passed since Spyro and Sparx left their formal home and went searching from where Spyro came from (who knows what evil spreads the land, maybe it reached the Swamp too, but maybe nothing bad happened to them)... Although Spyro really wasn't somewhat concerned about who his real parents are or what happened to them... maybe dragons do not have such strong family needs smilie. Maybe he doesn't want to ask because they're probably dead. Ignitus said there was a great battle on the Islands where the dragons lived so there's a little chance they survived the war.
It would be nice if Ignitus was Spyro's father, maybe grandfather smilie smilie... but he isn't acting like that. Is he so though that he's acting just like a mentor and a protector?
Guess the future will tell us... I hope.
