So, I finally manged to get a .gif avatar by shrinking a second-long .gif down to 60x60 pixels, but I have seen other users with full size and mildly complex ones. How did you get past the (inhumane) 30kb limit? Or, what compressinator did you use? Just curious, as there are several .gifs I'd like to use as avatars, but no matter how much I compress or shrink them, they're always above 30kb.

I usually use this website.
Once I uploaded the GIF, I go to the "Wizards" tap and click on the "GIF ONLY" option. If my GIF is larger than 100x100, I'll edit it to be 100x100 first. This can be done on the "Basics" tap of the website. If is already 100X100 or smaller, I'll just quickly head into GIF ONLY. From GIF ONLY, I'll reduce the color. If I notice that it didn't change the GIF dramatically, I'll keep reducing the color until it's 30kb. If it does change the GIF dramtically, I'll head into the other option, which is splitting the GIF. This can be found under the reducing colors option. I'll keep splitting until the GIF displease me. If it doesn't, then I just proceed to do it until is 30kb. If none of these work, I just tend to decrease the size a little bit and start from step one again. Pixilism has been going around with a website that he says that helps in this matter. I've heard that it works from the other users. I haven't tried it, but you could always ask him. If he sees this topic, is likely that he'll share the website anyways. |

30kb isn't inhumane when you have to pay storage and bandwidth for over 2000 user's avatars.
Maths: 30kb x 2000 = 300000kb which equates to 300MB roughly, which doesn't seem like a lot, but add the site, all the artwork from the galleries and the other sites on top of that and the fact the userbase is growing ect.

Ok I know, but it does get annoying when i shrink stuff down to 40kb. Also, I've got some stuff down to 20, but it still won't recognize.
