in Hot Head's Heroic challenge "Watermelon's Eleven" there are a number of sealed rooms with watermelons in them. are there any tricks to getting into those areas? I can't figure out any.

You really don't need to get into them, as you can get enough watermelons without going into them.

I know that. but I'm wondering why they are even there. there doesn't seem to ever be something visible in the game that doesn't have some use.

After the room where you are trapped and forced to dodge the bombs push the button and grab only the three watermelons aheadDO NOT GO ON AHEAD. Behind you the gate drops, go back up and you can get those watermelon and there is a teleporter under some barrels which leads directly into the maze area where you can get all 100 watermelons without having to do that annoying portion with the rocks and the bombs.

I had never noticed that! awesome. I usually go through the portal behind the stairs to get to the maze area but had never seen that other room open up.

What I really find fascinating about that maze is that it doesn't seem to be used anywhere else. I'm guessing it's part of the Crypt map but no other Crypt challenge uses it*. Give a Hoot & Blobber's Folly seem to use something similar, but not this area exactly. I find it odd they would create a whole area like this with such limited use.

*Dungeoness Creeps gives you a great opportunity to see the whole map - just try to skip the last gem before hitting the teleporter to the final gem

lots of challenges use the Crypt map. what no other challenge uses though is the red-tinted maze you can portal to in Watermelon's Eleven.

Give A Hoot is RELATED to this map, it's sort of the same map. In the back-right corner of Give A Hoot, there's a Grenade Troll who is on a separate platform, surrounded by chasm, so you can only kill him with certain attacks from certain characters. In Watermelon's Eleven, when you go to the teleporter that Shadowfox mentioned, just above that you can see that section of the dungeon. So they are completely separate parts, but in the same dungeon.

I found this teleporter ages ago, now it's boring enough that I sometimes do the normal path anyway. I have to do the annoying Locked-In-A-Cell-And-Dodge-The-Bombs part no matter what, so whatever. There is a separate room or two that can be accessed by Giants only (like when the path of Watermelons curves the first time, Giants can smash the wall behind the troll). There's another similar room or two while you're navigating through the spikes in the next section, before the Dodge The Bombs jail cell. I'm so used to the normal path that I keep forgetting that the Giants can access these rooms, LOL!

Right at the beginning you can see two separated circles on either side of the start, once you get past the Use Bombs To Clear Rocks section, the teleporter by the stairs takes you to one circle than the other, of course.

But I agree, I don't think I've seen the maze from this one anywhere else. If you take Shadowfox's teleporter, it's quite easy to reach a teleporter in the maze to return to the main section. The thing is, this maze contains something like 80 or 90 Watermelons (something like 10 more than the most you could need by the time you're in the maze). Even at the earliest you can access it, there's enough Watermelons in the maze to finish unless you use the end teleporter. I've almost never used it, so I forget where it leads, but I think it leads to the archer just beyond the gate you couldn't pass without cutting off access to the secret teleporter (I find I can take the first watermelon beyond the gate, but only barely before returning up the stairs).

Just remember: There's a time boost among the rock section, so you're taking a pass at the rocks at the expense of this time boost.

Oh yeah, no kidding! Especially for the Heroic Challenges, since they all use the same 4 or 5 maps... A bird's eye view would make for excellent maps!

there are 6
2 new ones with Giants:
Ice path (Ice Pirates, Pancake Slalom, Nort's Winter Classic, Real Goat Getter) this one seems to reuse parts of the Empire of Ice level
Castle Map (my wife & i call it the Sabrina Map) (SABRINA, Delivery Day, Wooly Bullies, Sky is Falling, etc)

previous maps:
Crypt/Dungeon (Watermelon's Eleven, Dungeoness creeps, Break the Fakes, Three teleporters, etc)
Fortress (Minefield Mayhem, You Break it You Buy It, Hobson's Choice, Flip the Script, etc)
Mines (Purple Chompies, Chompie Chompdown, Spawner Cave, etc)
Islands (Charm Hunt, Jailbreak, Chemical Cleanup, Break the Cats, etc)

Blobber's Folly & Give a Hoot use some otherwise unseen parts of... something.... they both look sort of similar to the maze portion of Watermelon's Eleven so I assume there is a connection.

Blobber's Folly seems to use a part of a level from SSA (I want to say Cadaverous Crypt), just like the Ice map is partially taken right out of Empire Of Ice, and I think I've recognized parts of that HC on other Crypt/Dungeon ones. When you get to the far end of the big hall in Give A Hoot, where you find an archer standing in front of a fence, I think this fence might be where the final bridge of Blobber's Folly leads, the goal for where you have to push Blobbers.

And haven't seen the maze anywhere else, but I did mention that Give A Hoot is north - well, northwest - of the other challenges that use the Dungeon map, including Watermelon's Eleven. smilie That's for sure, I've spotted the place you grab an owl that overlooks a chasm separating it from a grenade archer, this is right next to the early teleporter from Watermelon's Eleven.

Other than that, yeah, that map list sounds right. I'm still perplexed why there's a purple tornado in S.A.B.R.I.N.A. that you can't touch or interact with, while it isn't there in any other challenge I've seen... smilie
