I played the original skylanders with my kid, and have recently got some of the giants.

I was hoping to find an organized upgrade list like we had on the old game. Sorry I can't make it this time cause I dont intend to collect as many giants. My kid isn't as into this game as much as the old one... which is fine

One thing I have seen on the forum is about s1 and s2... is there a difference between the same character (as in the figure) from one to the next?
Like is Gill Grunt from the first game's package different than Gill Grunt from the Giants package other than the pose?

I am doing some catching up here

The series 2 version, you can upgrade both paths. Plus you get an extra "Wow Pow" attack.

Im not sure stats wise what the difference is. Havent payed much attention to that.

S1:

Work with SSA
Work with Giants
Unlock a Heroic Challenge in SSA

S2:

Work with S:SA
Work with Giants
Unlock a Heroic Challenge in SSA
Unlock a Heroic Challenge in Giants
Switch paths for free at any given time (when you talk to the lady that gives you upgrades).
Have a "Wow Pow" attack which differs from skylander to skylander. Some are better than others.

s2 gets a new pose and the ability to swap paths if s/he chooses to without resetting the character

s2 also gets a wow pow ability, most of which are pretty much cosmetic and have little impact on how the character is played
some are strong, but again, not a deal breaker.

it basically works itself out to be...

if you have a s1 character, theres no need to get the s2 version
if you dont have any version of the character you're better off getting the s2 version

The bolded comment only applies if you dont want to unlock the Heroic Challenges in Giants

Good list. Bolded comment only applies to SG. I'm not aware of being able to do this with an S2 character on SSA. Bottom line: If you are a casual player, and don't really care about 100% completion...just use S1 characters in SG and buy only S2 characters that you didn't buy in SSA that you like.

RIP GhostRoaster. He's reanimated as TakeYourLemons but occasionally is resurrected from the beyond when needed.
