My wife won't let me use magic items on heroic challenges. She thinks it's "cheap" and that the challenges should be... a challenge.
Even in game, we usually forget about using things the Canon or anvil rain and so rarely would really need them anyway.
How often does everyone else make use of these?

I usually don't need them, but I did use the anvil rain on Double Trouble's challenge. I did it in SSA, too. Upgraded figs make that challenge especially hard (Wii).
I think it's even better in the Giants game. Seems to last longer, and it targets enemies better.

The vast majority of the challenges aren't challenging in the slightest. They're just tedious. The only ones that are a challenge are due to time limits with very slow characters. So just to avoid wasting time repeating them, I do sometimes use the hourglass and boots. And also the anvil for DT's challenge for characters that lack precision.
Beyond that, I rarely use any of the items. I think those are the only ones I even keep with my active Skylanders. The others are stored in the basement to keep them out of the way. |

It depends on how you look at it. I have 92 characters. That means over 4000 heroic challenges. I use magic items...

In SSA I found the magic items didn't work - though I only really tried the Time Twister, and only on the purple chompy challenge. It would only work if I applied it before talking to Cali, and would be half gone before I was actually playing.
Now that I find them working in Giants, I still don't usually use them, except for the Don't Break The Paintings one (whatever it's called, whose ever it is). Some characters with bigger/stronger attacks who don't have the finesse, I find the Ghost Swords and Sparx to be useful to get the trolls without breaking the paintings. They're horribly sloppy though, and often hit vases and sometimes the paintings, but a few tries usually does it. But I say it isn't cheating. It's allowed, it works, it's not cheating. Simple. I do agree that the "challenges" tend to not be challenging enough to use the magic items, but that's no reason not to. If you want to, go ahead.

I just leave the winged boots on the portal at all times. Being able to run through faster just makes the whole process of taking every character through 45 mind-numbing challenges.
