My main complaint with Skylanders has always been the limitation of online coop play or multiplayer. I would love to level my character and have him take on others in a free-for-all. Disney's seems to have some sort of multiplayer which gives it a positive in my book.
Though I am looking at getting Swap Force, Infinity will be a nice temptation as well.

Infinity doesn't appeal to me much. The price of figures looks like it'll cost more and the fact you have to pay money out of pocket to upgrade those figures is a huge turn off for me. What's even worse is that those upgrade disks will be sold in "blind packs" so you don't even know what you're getting. I hate the idea of accidentally buying the same upgrade multiple times because I have no idea whats in the pack until I open it up. I realize this gives kids the chance to trade the disks like my friends and I used to trade baseball cards but I'm not a kid anymore and I'd rather know exactly what I'm getting for my money.
Think I'll just stick to Skylanders. It has to be one or the other anyways, there's no way I could ever afford to collect BOTH of these series. my poor wallet started waving the white flag when Giants was first announced. Now it's begging me on a daily basis to stop the slow, painful torture and just put it out of it's misery already. |

I have not looked at Infinity that much. Couple things from Triggernots post.... Having to pay real life money to upgrade? No thanks! Also, the blind upgrades? Again, no thanks. Also, Disney's games have had a hard time catching on in America for some reason.

I'm looking forward to Infinity more, purely game-wise. It seems to have more longevity and variety, and I'm really, really interested in seeing what other "DIFs" come up with in Toy Box. Don't get me wrong, I'll still play and enjoy Skylanders though(not planning to get Swap Force till Series 3 becomes super cheap, however).
There's also the fact that Infinity is coming sooner. I can't think of anything spectacular I want in June besides New Leaf (which is admittedly pretty spectacular) and the possibility of one or two eShop games, but Swap Force is arriving in Q4 when a lot of other games I want will come out(POKÉMON X AND Y! <3). C'est la vie. |

It could just be my guy feeling on this and from past experience, but even with games like Epic Mickey that get good reviews they have a hard time catching on in the States. I know this game is different then Epic Mickey, but between that and the prices and the blind upgrades it just doesn't sit well in my book. Not trying to throw stones or start an argument with my next comment but, if the game does not catch on well in America it does not bode well for the game.

Infinity is nothing like any previous Disney game, in fact Infinity is a platform to play the games on.
the more i find out about it, especially the toy box mode, the more i am looking forward to it you should watch this video to get some sort of idea, and this is just the basics ... |

I've played bigger, better, and more ambitious sandbox games than even the most optimistic press is purporting Infinity to be. I by far prefer the mini-Diablo style Skylanders gameplay. We'll be getting Infinity mostly for our son's benefit, as he loves Hot Wheels quite a bit, and would truly enjoy the Cars set. Otherwise we wouldn't be buying it at all. Prices are too high, gameplay is not ambitious, and the figures themselves lack flair and innovation compared to Giants, LightCores, and especially part swapping.

I am not sure about it, I will probably check it out. However, if one thing comes from this hopefully it will make both franchises better.

The appeal of Infinity is suppose to be that the worlds and characters are familiar favorites. Ironically for me everything they chose comes from movies I haven't seen so right now I don't care. God help me if they start touching any of the fairy tales, though. My wallet would probably roll over and die.
Looking just at the details I'm still more excited for Swap Force then I am for Disney's new product. To each their own, though.

When I go into a franchise, it's all or nothing. That being said...me nor my family really doesn't want Infinity, and my pocketbook can't afford both. It's literally going to be a frank family discussion, because I'm not going to get Infinity AND SSF this year. We may go Infinity simply because we're getting slightly burned out on Skylanders...we'll see.

I'm not sure what's going to win---technical features or simply a new canvas. We'll see. Like I said before, VV better bring their A game. I will say skylanders has the edge simply because there's no script where this can go...despite what Disney is calling Infinity the playset stuff seems uninspired, as is the character design. The strength of their IP means a lack of imagination within the storyline of the playsets; however seeing new characters and adventures in Skylands seems fresher and more innovative. It boils down to--what does each offer? Like others stated I don't like every Disney IP...so that kinda kills the collecting aspect for me. I know some Disney Diehards will eat it up, though.

Gameplay wise I cant complain as they offer such ingame features online mode and 4 players. Playsets are nice and Toy box mode is what we are looking forward too. The only cons is pricing. Cme on DI. Make it price competetive and I will be truely sold day 1 of release. If not we'll be just buying here in there just cause my kids luv some disney characters.

That article was clearly biased for Infinity, btw. The noted criticisms have been voiced here before. Also note that the article seems to have made it's mind up in terms of what features SSF will have--has it been conclusively communicated that no online play will be available?

Idk really, what really stopped them from at least the online features. They immidiately think bad "oh kids might meet some random strangers online and not might end up good" hanvent they realized its their 3rd game, theres an upcoming competetions which is feature rich DI-4player and online mode, is parental mode or security feature or online friends only hard to implement? Instead they shud have think "online what shud we do to make it more kids friendly without parents worrying?" Isnt it nice to meet more portal masters and make more friends rather than instantly being negative. This was the only huge letdown for me with regards to skylanders. Nonetheless will still support for them to improve it in the future and we had fun playing it.
2player max is acceptable as they just introduced platforming/jumping. I cant imagine 4 kids playing SSF so frustrated as 1 or 3 cant just get it thru the next platform.

There's no reason why they can't introduce competition/battles that support networks without voice/video. They did it for Universe, to be sure they can do it there too.
