Skylander Variant Pricing [CLOSED]

I apologize if there's been a thread on this...I'm trying to get data on how much the following variants go for and/or a good FMV:

1. Pearl Hex
2. Chrome Spyro E3 & Licensing Show
3. GITD Zap
4. GITD Wrecking Ball
5. Clear Wham Shell
6. Clear Stealth Elf
7. Clear Cynder
8. Gold skylanders S1
9. Silver skylanders S1
10. GITD Fright Rider
11. Glitter Sprocket
12. Glitter Hot Head
13. Glitter Sonic Boom
14. Stone Zook
15. Stone Whirlwind

Some of the eBay prices are whacked and really wanted someone whom I'd call a "variant" expert lend a hand. If I missed a GITD from S1 or Clear from S1 I meant to include them.

I also don't have a clear way of identifying "authentic" gold and silver figures...and that's going to keep me away from them until an expert here clears it up.

The GITD Fright Rider can be had for 30-40ish bucks on evilbay. Now, unless I know the person (someone from this forum) I don't like to order from overseas unless I can confirm they are going to be shipped in a box. I ordered a Dark Spyro from overseas came in a bubble wrap envelope. Which was fine figure was great but box was smashed. So I have another one coming in the mail for me on Monday that should be in better shape.

Clear Cynder I was able to get for 70 bucks from ebay. Now, that was a steal.

Yeah, I haven't done eBay in years and my first two skylander transactions were sent in a bubble envelope--same thing. It's a lot of work to ask someone who should know better to start with. I could start a whole thread on eBay nightmares...but let's stick to pricing smilie

BTW, if anyone buys from me...I treat your product the way I'd like it treated...with TLC, dignity and respect!

What's the most expensive?

I am not sure if these have ever hit ebay, but the Trigger Happy and I think Gill Grunt from a 2011 Toy Show are really really really really rare. Let me do some checking and I will see if I can find some pictures.

Here is a link to one on Ebay... Now, I know the price don't show it but I am pretty these are really rare and have gone up in price a lot.

Those were actually from E3. That seller tried to offer me that one for like 30 bucks. I passed on it, because of the god awful packaging Trigg was in.

Wow, even the variants have variants. Maybe I need to just step away from this now while I still have a chance.

I've been tracking eBay and Amazon sales on these for the last three months. You can see a list of the prices for all these variants in new and used condition
:
http://videogames.pricechartin...w-highest-price

If you click on an individual figure you will see historic prices and can click 'completed auctions' and see a list of past auctions. This can be helpful because eBay's history only goes back 30 days.

Let me know if I am missing any variants you are looking for. I think it is a complete list now, but definitely want to improve if there are missing Skylanders. Thanks

I'm not sure why the info I gave you in your other thread didn't clear this up, so I will do my best to try again.

SSA Silver Chase variants:
- The BEST way to authenticate these is by the factory stamp (located on the bottom of the green base or the lower backside of the packaging). It is almost always designated with a LETTER and then a 4 digit number, i.e. W0123. Why use the factory stamp as conclusive evidence? Because the UPC/SKU numbers are the same for a normal figure as it is with it's variant counterpart. Unfortunately, the Silvers were the first chase variants released and did not come with pre-loaded RFID chips set to Level 5 and 2100 coin bonus. Otherwise, you could alternatively ask the seller to verify the L5/2100 coin perk by placing the figure on the portal. Thus, aside from having a trained eye for what they look like, you are left with only the factory stamp as a unique identifier. The silvers should have a factory stamp to the effect of E3129 (EXXXX). The first letter should start with the letter "E," followed by a four digit number.

SSA Gold Chase variants:
- My disclaimer for the Gold variants is: these are the hardest ones to authenticate. Why? Because the factory stamps and UPC/SKU #'s can be the same for both the normal and variant chase figures. For example, both my Gold Chop Chop and regular Chop Chop have the same UPC of 4787584278. They also have the same factory stamp of W0123. Fortunately, Activision began pre-loadeding RFID chips to Level 5 and 2100 coin bonus with these Gold variants. Thus again, either you must have a trained eye for what they look like, or the only other unique identifier would be by putting the figure on the portal and seeing if it is at L5/2100 coins.

I'm not trying to claim myself as an expert, but I've been around awhile and have encountered these questions from forum members a handful of times. Good luck with authenticating!

I appreciate that you've done this. It definitely gives me something else to look at other than keeping tabs on eBay.

You are missing some of the rarer promotional figures as was discussed above. The 2011 E3 promotional figures, Trigger Happy, Gill Grunt, and Spyro are IMO, the rarest of all packaged Skylanders. They were only sent to media and judges BEFORE E3 in July of 2011. They were to bring the figure(s) to the event and try them on the portal. As a result, of how many of them undoubtedly were opened and the fact that only ~200-300 of each were given out, these will hardly ever be found on eBay. To my knowledge, there have only been 3 maybe 4 eBay auctions and they were all for the Trigger Happy figure. As my signature suggests, I would love to find Gill Grunt and Spyro to complete my collection.

So $60 really wasn't that bad of a price even though the cardboard was trashed.

LOL! Let's just say if I could have bought mine at $60, I'd have bought 10 of them if possible. I paid significantly more in July 2012. I haven't seen a single auction of one since. Despite the crease, it's worth alot to the right collector. I'm not trying to brag, but mine is in better condition and have been offered $1000 for it...

How does the data get updated? I'm seeing price slipping on eBay and I'm perplexed at how you arrive the the number on your site. Is it a "forever" average?

I think the problem your going to find trying to get a value of these items is that it changes on a daily basis. One day a collector is willing to pay this for it, another day a collector is willing to pay that. Skylanders is one of those volatile items that one minute you can score a variant for retail and the next it costs 10-15x that. Not to mention you might have a variant that everyone you are reaching out to has, in which case the value is greatly diminished.

I've sold a few figures on eBay and about all you can do is start it at $0.99 and let the market at the time determine what you are going to get. Even coin values are unstable, and that is a market that has been around a long time. I just don't think you can take a fad and come up with a stable value, however you can come up with some pretty broad ranges. i.e. Fright Rider = retail to $30 or pearl Hex = $100-$300

I spent some time working in a card shop (in the pre-ebay era) and people would often come in and ask what (some random sports-related) item was worth, like an autographed mitt or a superbowl program or some other item not generally covered in a Beckett guide. My answer was always the same: it's worth whatever some one is willing to pay you for it.

Metallic blue Chop Chop or GITD FR are worth whatever you are willing to pay for them. No more, no less

Right now I manually add 5-6 listings every week or so for eBay and then track the prices automatically on a daily basis on Amazon. The price isn't a straight average, but takes into account statistical confidence in the price. Using stats, if I can be 95% confident the price is $10 based upon all the sales that have occurred we will use that.

The price changes over time though, so it is not a 'forever' price but a current price. The charts show historic prices over time (but I only have 3 months of data)

I'm hoping to start tracking all Skylander sales automatically instead of doing it manually because that is a bit of a pain. But that might be a bit tricky to identify them and categorize the correctly.

You can read more about the methodology here

That's awesome. There's enough swing in prices that I think people are putting them up on eBay with incorrect terms and it's slipping under the radar of some people.

Yep, if someone is willing to put in the effort to track down those incorrectly listed figures they can save a bunch of money. There are quite a few listings where the seller doesn't give a very good title and being able to identify the item by the picture can really help.

That and just being patient. Prices vary quite a bit so being willing to lose an auction in order to win one at a better price in a day or two can pay off.
