I tried both paths for Ignitor and I find Blademaster to be MUCH better, But everyone thinks Soul of the Flame is better.
What's so great about it? I don't find the mortars to be powerful or useful.

Maybe you're not doing it right, watch this video and see how I did it.

The sword isn't even worth taking the path.

1. The damage for the sword only increases by 12.

2. The combos stink and don't help much.

3. The megaslam is still slow to strike and has a low DPS. It can't be interrupted by anyone, but still.

I think the combos are pretty useful in all honesty.
The speed of the megaslam doesn't bother me much really.

Did ya see the video? It shows a trick you may be missing, skip the video to 2:38 and onward to find it faster. It makes Soul of the Flame so overpowered you don't even need the sword path anymore, in fact I only recommend the other path if you want more of a challenge.

I only like his Fireslam combo, his other 2 ones are pretty lame.

^ I've did that before.
Blademaster is better to me because:

1.Sword attacks are pretty powerful

2.Ignitor is underrated on this path and overrated on the other.

3.Combos are useful

4.Better megaslam

1. Not really, the sword isn't all that great compared to All 3 flames at once on 1 enemy. 150 damage from all 3 mortars sure beats 40 damage from a sword strike in my eyes. Because they are so good in close range, I don't even use the 2 sword attacks because of it (except in Boss Battles where triple damage won't work sadly).

2. I have to disagree, Blademaster is actually the more popular path. If you read the site polls on which path is better, you'd see that Blademaster got at least 119 more votes than Soul of the Flame. People are quick to pick Blademaster because they complain about the fact that your suit of armor can still hurt when you're outside of suit, and the flame form does not last very long, when they obviously don't know about the triple damage trick.

Yes some people do acknowledge the trick and prefer SotF, but the majority still is for BM.

3. I only liked his Fire Slam combo, his other 2 ones are pathetic. I do wish it wasn't a clone of the Megaslam though.

The Fiery Burst is very slow and does the same amount of damage as a regular sword strike, plus it makes you immobile and leaves you vulnerable. IMO, the #1 worst combo in the game.

The primary combo strikes slowly and is very short-ranged, it's kinda useless overall.

4. Not much better though, the double mega slam isn't a drastic change of damage like smilie's laser or smilie's Anchor Cannom. It only does 20 damage and doesn't have a high DPS.

5. Blademaster is only a threat in close range, pretty much any long-distance enemies can blast you far away. Soul of the Flame devastates both close and long range.

Overall, SotF is better for both PvP and PvE and I find it more fun (just my opinion). I only come to Blademaster if I wanna do boss battles, the only way it is better.

lets all remember that Blade Master is allot better on the Giants engine.
but still, Soul of the Flame is miles better, for all the reasons LightSpyro posted.
not that any of you took the time to read what he typed.

After all i've heard about SoTF, (thanks Tashiji) i've decided to take him on that path. He is a freaking beast. Blademaster is much worse and is pretty poor. SoTF is really the way to go.

Opinions vary on which of his paths are better for Single Player (I think Blademaster, personally. That's just me though.), but it is mostly agreed upon that Soul of the Flame is much more powerful in PvP, one of the most powerful PvPers in the game in fact, for both Spyro's Adventure and 'Giants. Perhaps this is why you got the idea that "everyone thinks Soul of the Flame is better"?

If anyone still needs clarification, allow me to copy+paste one of my posts from a different thread:
Quote:
In all honesty I probably should have specified that he's only really overpowered in PvP, but is just okay in Single Player.

The trick with him in PvP Arena Battle Mode is very simple: Do not attack with either of his two sword abilities, use only the fire spirit. At the start of the match, find a cosy hiding spot where his armour will be fairly safe and start "remotely" attacking with his fire spirit repeatedly by releasing the fire spirit, running towards the opponent, burning them once or twice and then using the attack button to explode and start again. Rinse and repeat.
If the opponent decides to run in and attack Ignitor's suit of armour, they've fallen for your trap: End your current fire spirit run by pressing the attack button to explode, and then take control of Ignitor and run towards the opponent. Start spamming the fire spirit attack on their face, using the attack repeatedly at close range as if it were a melee attack, pressing the attack button if needed to explode so you can launch the fire spirit again. If you can get Ignitor close enough so that all three of the flame salvos connect, Ignitor will now be doing a higher damage output than any other character in the game can compete with. With practice, even Level 15 Giants can be knocked down in a matter of seconds.

I actually find SotF is generally better for both Story and PvP, the triple mortar trick still works in Story and the flame can be used in long range which compensates for being vulnerable out of the suit. I do this all the time on even the toughest enemies like Arkeyan Shield Juggernauts.

The only time I find Blademaster Better is in a Boss Battle (or at least Robo-Kaos) , where triple trick does not work and you have to deal with so many enemies and the boss at once, where your suit of armor can still get smashed.

Other than that, SotF is better for me anyday.

Soul of the Flame is much better for PvP, but Blademaster is a strong path for Story Mode, nonetheless.

Light, you always complain about the damage boosts, not the numbers themselves. 40 damage per hit is huge!

It can also depend on rate of hit, stats, range and critical hit.

yeah. lots of people like soul of the flame but really, blademaster is overrated.

blademaster is a good path but a bit boring a not the best combo's ever, his sword cant compare to voodood's axe on his axe path and the other melee characters like stealth elf, terrafin, you know.
i only have S1 ignitor but his wow pow is fantastic with soul of the flame, 3 motars =powerful blue flames! the explostion does lots of damage, its crazy, i get confused which attack does what damage since its so awesome. smilie forever. with blademaster is ok but with soul of the flame he's one of my favourites but no one can top my smilie ,smilie is my second favourite smilie
