For Spyro's Adventure I got both the PS3 and 3DS version as they're totally different games, and both had different figures in it too. Well, I don't mind the recoloured Spyro, it was still different.

Now for Giants I've waited for a while with buying the game at all, since both packs have the same figures in it. Though, I couldn't resist getting the PS3 version since it was on a nice discount.

Now I'm torn whether or not to get the 3DS version too. I don't want Cynder and Tree-Rex double as everyone and their grandma already got it with their own starter packs (I know I can get the booster, but it's not that much cheaper than the starter anyway and I'd still have Tree-Rex double).

So... has there been any news or hints about releasing different starter packs, at least for the 3DS version? Anyone else had this problem? Did you just buy the pack anyway?

They didn't release any different starter packs for SSA, so I seriously doubt they will for Giants. I have the same objection to getting double characters, even if one is S1 and one is S2. You'll either have to suck it up and buy it, or do without the 3DS version. Note that if you get the regular pack, with the portal, you can use the portals together. Unconnected portals touching a connected portal will extend the range of the working portal... I saw someone use two full-sized portals, one for each Skylander for 2-player, and a 3DS portal for the magic item. It looked pretty neat, and organized.

On the plus side, you can try the other upgrade paths on the second figures. And there may be SOME demand if you try to sell them, though less so for Tree Rex. People who bought the portal master pack because they wanted to avoid having a second portal, but would have liked the figures...

I don't mind having 4 portals; I'll just make a tower out of them! At the moment the starter packs are cheaper here than the booster packs, for some reason. So I'll see if I can get the 3DS version tomorrow and will then try to sell the double figures. Maybe to someone with the iPad version or like you said, someone with the booster pack!

I'm very excited to start collecting the Giants ;p

I gave in. Tree Rex and Cynder s2 for sale! I'm hoping the iPad version is popular in my area xD
