Rare Skylanders - What is really rare? [CLOSED]

Reading thru evilbay and craigslist, the word "rare" is abused too much.

Is there some site where an actual count of the number of a Skylander is available? I mean, take Gill Grunt in the XBox exclusive pack-in. How many were really made? Same with such items as Red Drill Sergeant which is no longer "rare" since Walmart has reissued him.

Just wondering...

We really don't know how many of any of the variants were made. Things like Legendaries or the regular colored variants probably had a pretty big run...I'd say something around like 10,000 or 20,000.

Things like the chase variants on the other hand probably had a much lower amount. Maybe something like 1,000-5,000 each. It's hard to say though because we were never given an indication on how many of them were made.

Flocked Stump Smash is the only one we can say with somewhat certainty; there's 7,334 according to Frito-Lay's official contest summary.

I don't think anyone can give an accurate count of each skylander made. I haven't seen any kind of statistics like that posted anywhere.

Even if they were, how accurate would they be? If Walmart re-issued Red Drill Sergeant then any numbers already posted would now be wrong.

I think the toy fair variants are usually around 2000.

I'm pretty sure the chase variants from S:SA are amoung the rarest. I agree the term "Rare" is very much abused. Alot of what I see now'a days being labled "Rare" isn't rare at all.

But yeah like someone already stated we don't have any offical numbers on how many of what was released only Fuzzy stum- (Flocked Stump Smash)-
Though I agree it would be great to know the numbers.

Rare should really only apply to the chase variants and the named store exclusives that aren't legendaries, the ones that'll only be available for a short time and a pain to get later. Just ask anyone trying to get Granite Crusher for their collection now.

Rare.. hmm...

Silvers from Spyro's Adventure were limited to 1,000 each. False amounts have been placed, like 10,000, but there are only 1,000 of them.

Yeah, this term is way over used in Skylanders figures.

A guy named Evan Butler compiled this list of rare skylanders based upon the resale prices.

Basically all Toy Fair, pearl, silver, and gold variants (except Gold Flameslinger Series 2). Some glow-in-the-dark series 1 figures are rare too.

Matt - is there a source on that 1,000 number? That's SUPER low. like, crazy low. Playmates released a few chase figures with a printing of 1,701 for the Star Trek line and that's pretty much credited with destroying the company...

^ I think the only released numbers were 10,000, and they have to be wrong.

I have said many times that TRU got over 6,400 cases with

Wham shell
Stealth elf
Stump smash
Cynder
Sonic boom
..........

And this was long after "wave 7" or whatever was the last one was. This doesn't count target or walmart or gamestop. I am thinking that 20,000 is a very conservative estimate.

the only skylanders i consider rare are chase variants that show up randomly in shipments or toy fair exclusives. Walmart variants, and legendaries arent typically rare. They need to produce a high number to supply every one and make us happy.

It drives me crazy that i go on ebay and use the search term "rare" and find S2 gill grunts etc.

I've given up on using the search term 'rare' at all because there is so much junk. It takes more searches, but I will look for specific rare figures like "silver skylanders", "toy fair skylanders", "pearl skylanders", etc. I've also found including the negative keyword "-not" helps as well. For example:

"silver skylanders -not"

Some people will list something like "Gil Grunt Skylanders not Silver Pearl Gold"

Hmm, thanks for posting, I found that interesting. I didn't realized that the Volcanic Vault was considered to be so rare to some...I don't have it b/c I didn't buy my original set at Best Buy, but I think they still have some on their shelves.

I might have to make a stop at Best Buy this weekend. :<

The rare things are most variants (except GITD Sonic Boom and the Legendaries), Wham Shell, S1 Zap, Boomer, Voodood, Dino Rang, and Camo and Warnado singles.

Dino-Rang has been on Amazon for regular retail price for awhile now (and still is at the time of posting this)

Voodood is on ToysRus.Com (at time of posting this)

I still see the Wham-Shells from time to time in store at ToysRUs in the carry/display case, but never as a single. I believe its also online at ToysRUs.

That is keyword spamming and it is against eBay policy.
