I am SOOOOOOOOO OVER that ridiculous glitch where my characters lose their upgrades after I buy them!!!!

It happened to me with both Thumpback and Eye Brawl where I had to buy them the same upgrade over and over again because they wouldn't save. Then last night I upgraded my son's new Stealth Elf for him. Had leveled her up to level 9, had purchased all the upgrades on the Pook Blade thingy path - with the exception of that annoying combo one - only to put her back on the portal this morning and find she is back to level 6 with 3 of the upgrades missing!!!

So I then go around and collect enough money to upgrade her again, but before I do I switch to another character, when I per Stealth Elf back on she has gone from having over 7,000 cash/gold/whatever it is, to now only having 900 odd!!!

So I put her back on again, go and get more cash, buy her the upgrades again, go and play a few levels using those upgrades (health regeneration etc) just to make sure they have saved correctly. Now I have just put her back on again AND GUESS WHAT? TWO OF THE UPGRADES ARE MISSING AGAIN!!!!

And it's not just Stealth Elf, it's happened with most of the characters. It's got to the stage where I realise there is no point trying to buy all the characters their upgrades because they could lose them all at any time. And it doesn't matter what I do.

• I buy the upgrade and take the characters off, some upgrades disappear.
  
• I buy the upgrades and play a chapter using those upgrades, then the next time I go to use the character the upgrade has disappeared.
  
• I buy an upgrade and play a HC using that character and those upgrades and then it still disappears.
  
• I hold the remote in my right hand, whilst standing on my head with my eyes crossed and still the upgrades disappear!!!
  

So yeah, Giants sucks, TOB and/or Activision SUCK. I realise there is a LOT of work that goes into making each game and that they rushed to get this done by Christmas, but this glitch has ruined the game for me. I AM SOOOO SICK OF COLLECTING CASH JUST FOR THE UPGRADES TO DISAPPEAR!!!!!

I have 3 stars on every chapter and completed all Arena Challenges on the Hard mode.
I have 3 stars on every chapter and completed all Arena Challenges on the Nightmare mode.
I have every accolade on both Hard and Nightmare modes except for two - the one you get when you have registered all 8 Giants and the Grand Admiral accolade that you get when you have every other accolade.
To get to Grand Admiral on both Hard and Nightmare modes all I have to do is place Nijini on the portal and register her on each game. That's it, I have done everything else.

So buying a new game - or sending this one back for a replacement - would that mean I would need to start all over again? Because that would suck. It would suck SOOOOO BAAADDD. I never want to have to complete Chapter 14 under the time limit ever again.

If you get a replacement disc for the same console, you wouldn't lose your save data. Except for 3DS, of course, since it saves to the cartridge.

ive never experienced this bug, and i currently have 28/39 of my skylanders fully upgraded, i am on the wii u version so if it isnt your disc it may be a specific console version the bug occurs on.

just on a side note..why did you bother getting 3 stars/arena challenges on hard mode if you were going to/had done nightmare? ~ eh i guess if anything youre getting your moneys worth

Because I'm an idiot who didn't understand how it worked. In hindsight I should have raced through on Hard and then taken my time on Nightmare mode.

I think it is just Wii and Wii U

never happened to me on the wii

do you have any transmitter in near your portal? if yes make sure your portal shudbe far away from that source as it may interfere in transfering data to your figures. hope this helps.

Do you own a Glow in the Dark portal? They are EXTREMELY glitchy.

When you buy upgrades, keep the figure on the portal for a little longer than normal so it saves. I think that if you take the figure straight off the portal after buying the upgrade or earning cash, you lose it.

This happened to my S2 sonic boom, and hasn't happened since she lost her path upgrades, but it didn't take long to get them back, my portal has been glitchy lately, idk why

Trying putting the portal away from other electronics and try not to take the Skylander off too fast.

My portal is near a lot of electronics but they are all unplugged, my table for all my consoles recently broke so I unplugged everything and took it off to avoid destruction of my wii u, x box 360, ps2, Nintendo 64, my GameCube and my wii lol I haven't plugged anything back in except for my wii u

GiTD Portals are supposed to be glitchy? Huh, mine are even better than my old ones.

Is there any metal in all of those electronics? I know my portal is the original plug in portal from SSA and the pamphlet on it said to make sure your portal is at least 6 inches away from anything metal.

Not only have I left them on there for a long time, I've played whole chapters using the upgrades that then disappear. Plenty of time to save.

The portal itself is well away from anything electronic - well as far away as it can be given that it's plugged into the Wii. It's sitting on a set of draws that is in front of the television. The Wii console itself is now sitting next to dvd players and a wireless router but I wouldn't have thought the console would be the problem?

But would the portal be the problem or would it be the individual toys? Because upgrade info is saved in the toy itself, or do you think that a portal glitch might be wiping some of this saved data? Either way it's very frustrating.

No I originally had the wireless one from S:SA but when problems started to happen I thought it might have been that so I started using the new USB one that came with Giants. Hasn't seemed to solve any problems but at least I am not changing batteries every few hours.

Thanks ZapNorris for taking the time to post such a lengthy and detailed reply to the challenges I am having. I think I will cherish this response the most as it really gets to the core of the problem and offers so many potential solutions. I particularly like the way it doesn't come across like some sort of order to behave myself.

And here I was thinking I was justified to be upset about glitches in a game that I have invested hundreds of dollars (must be close to $1k by now having every character from both S:SA and SG plus a couple of variants & sidekicks) and hundreds of hours in. Seems like I am not within my rights to get cranky about it though, instead I should just "Chill the **** out". Thanks for taking the time to stop on by and share your wisdom.
