Do we really need more characters? [CLOSED]

I'm just wondering do we really need more characters in the next installment? If you think about it and have all skylanders not counting variants you spent roughly $600 give or take! Then take in consideration with all the S2 figures that's another $100-200 more on top of that. Unless your a spoiled how many out there have all the original skylanders?

I think a huge part of enjoying the game is leveling up characters and seeing what new powers they get. My husband and I have most of the originals and most of the new ones...the only ones we don't have are ones we don't find aesthetically pleasing. Though, to be fair, we sold his Wii and Wii games to get the money for some. But for us, it was worth it. Its a lot of fun for us to discover all the new stuff.

Id love to see S3 be released with expansion packs only. My kids do have all the characters from SSA and so far SG but it is a little ridiculous to keep producing more figures. How many do you need to play the game.....8. My kids have around 90 or 95 of them. Yes they are cool and finding what you are searching for can be fun but do they need another 30-50 figures for the same game over and over? I think not. By releasing S3 with only expansion packs it would be a nice breather that would allow more time to enjoy the game itself and not be on a constant hunt for waves of characters.

I think the majority of people (from the reading in this forum) would prefer new characters to reposed....new characters are always going to be desirable even when I personally have hundreds. It's a collection in addition to a video game. IF they made future figures articulated like that amazing Jin fellow does, there'd be far more value to getting even reposed.

I have all the characters from SA and all the NEW characters in Giants plus a few reposed figures. But I'm not gonna re-buy all the S2 figures. I will only buy my favorite characters if I like the repose. I will always get the new characters though and of course am always on the look out for variants.

I wouldn't mind new characters but don't ya think right now since there is 40 small characters and 8 giants that would be sufficient for now. I have all of S1 characters and S2 except my child's 5 BDAY is next month and wont get eyebrawl and thumpback that I already have till then. I also could see them come out with kaos and glumshanks and other characters that you have to defeat, i think that would be pretty cool. Just one other thing that I didn't like about GIANTS and I know it was said in another thread it was way to easy and short compared to the original.

$600 over the course of a year isn't really that much. As someone who collects figures of all kinds as a hobby I still find myself with plenty of spare cash to do other things. My wife hates it but she will get over it LOL.

New characters, maybe. Series 3 reposes? Nope. Unless its like wham-shell or camo because they didn't get reposed and are pretty hard to find where I live.

Ummm, that's kind of the appeal of the game series. If they don't add new characters the series will die. Sorry, yes it hurts the wallet but the series can't survive on reposes alone.

I don't mind new characters. Just don't make more reposes. Its just a waste. I mean I do like a few of the reposes but the way they package the 3-pks, u feel obligated to buy the reposes so u can complete the collection and get the accolade.

We don't NEED new characters - but Activision / Toys For Bob do if they want the franchise to remain a "printing money" concept for as long as possible.

That's why I'm expecting the next game to involve some sort of "opposite" or "reversal" effect around the entirety of Skylands. Of course, all the SKYLANDERS will be hit with this effect, causing "alternate" versions of the characters to be released.

Air Skylanders become Earth. Fire become Water. Life become Undead. Magic become Tech.

Forty-eight "new" characters get released without doing anything other than a few cosmetic changes to the figures and their in-game appearances. They could probably use the exact same molds with color changes if you wanted.

There you go. Skylanders 3 already has the potential of having more characters than both of the other games, COMBINED.

Yes because we need light and dark Skylanders...lol. That's like asking a Pokemon fan if more new Pokemon are actually needed...the answer is usually a resounding YES. New Skylanders are fun. There's no rule or forced gameplay feature that makes you get all of them. It's a choice that it. Don't want the new one don't get them. I personally think they have a long way to go. I'd like to see more animal types in the future. LOL I basically want them to remake Battle Beasts ala Skylanders. I want a Tiger, Bat, Sea Horse, Turtle Man, Hippo, Lion, Owl and so on. For those that don;t know what I'm talking about educate yourself.

You know they will. If they have as many as they did this time, they'll be lucky if I buy more than half. I got 10 out of 16 normal ones, so TFB was lucky this time

I'd rather have a bunch of new creative characters than keep rereleasing the old ones. I mean, rereleases are kinda nice for the people that missed them the first time, but it'll get old fast for me.

I prefer new to reposes of courses, but you can bet on a mix for several reasons:
coming up with all new characters and skills is a lot of work and each new character requires play and balance testing. Remember, all previous 48 characters (and in game variants) must be playable in a new game as well.
reposes allow them to make money of an already existing character with very little additional work. Especially since they know there are people out there who will not only collect every repose, but every variant.
(here's a rule: you are not allowed to complain about reposes if you make any effort to collect variants, which are worse than reposes, they are merely repaints)

For the third game I would think the mix will be something like:
8 newlanders
8 new whatever they come up with this time as a special type (minis, royals, spiders, titans, lost heroes, elemental lords, etc)
8 S2 reposes of the S:SA characters not in Giants
8 S2 reposes of the newlanders from Giants
8 S2 reposes of the giants

so 16 new characters and 24 reposes, similar to Giants. the 16 new will get a soul gem power and the 24 reposes will get a wow pow. I suspect all will include light up Light Core tech although without being "Light core" characters.

Well making figures of the evil skylander minions sounds pretty cool. But then I guess it would still be classified as a repose or variant.

I think Toys for Bob should keep the new character count low since everyone should pretty much have a skylander of each element by now. The series 2 and lightcore figures are good for people who don't want to get the first game.

Definitely new ones are much better than all these reposed. Finding a new skylander is like Christmas while just re-finding an old skylander is sad and depressing.

Skylanders 3 will most definitely have new characters. That's pretty much what everyone looks for.

I'm still missing a few, but I have about 80% of what has been released to date. Other then exclusives or variants, I usually try to pay 50% or less for what I pick up. Most of my S1's came from buy one get one free sales at best buy (got some even cheaper using shopkick points or reward certificates). Picked up a ton of the new gaints from JCPenny before christmas using the $5 and $10 certificates from buttons, and picked up a bunch more recently for $4 each. Assuming you aren't like most and need to run out and buy whatever figure came out today for higher then full price from toys r us, you can spend a lot less and get much more for your money if your smart about the sales.
