Brought home Eye Brawl and Thumpback today. My Daughter has wanted Eye Brawl since she first found out about him. She rips him open and puts him on the Portal aaaaannnnnndddddd nothing! Nada, zip! The stinkin figure is broken. Every other figure I got today works just fine! I called all 16 gamestops in my area and they, of course, were all sold out. smilie

I am so frustrated right now! And I have a sad daughter! She does like the SideKicks I brought home though.

Bad luck. It takes, like, 2 weeks for acti to replace it. Eye brawl was my most-want since day one along with thumpy.

Teach your daughter self control. She shouldn't just "rip" the figure open, that's probably why it broke.

That's pretty insulting. If I were you I'd delete that comment.

That's a BIG fault on Activision's part.

Seriously??

First off, you don't know me or my Daughter. I didn't ask for your parenting help, nor do I need it.

And second, explain to me EXACTLY how ripping off the cardboard back of a package would break a figure!

Wow, that was such an in depth answer! Thank you for your obviously impressive insight in to the functional workings of a Skylanders figure.

Please do me a favor and just skip any future topics I start. Thanks.

My wife had been wanting Hot Head and we had been looking for him with no luck. Finally found one about 2 weeks ago. Go him home and nothing. Wouldn't like up or anything. Ended up taking him back and getting our money back. Fortunately we found him a few days later at another store but I know how you feel.

Yes, because ripping the box open will break a figure for sure.

I bought a Zook a few days before it's release from ebay, and I got it. DIDN'T WORK! Jeez, Activision needs to have better quality control.

Unfortunately I can't return him because of the SideKick promo. And I can't exchange him because he's all sold out.

I called the Gamestop where I got him and talked to the guy that I bought Eye Brawl from and he was very cool about it. He said I could exchange it when they get more in. He took my name and phone number and said he would hold one for me.

you can break a head off the fig and it wouldn't affect the game play!!! The chip is safe and secure in the base and pretty much the only way you can mess it up is by getting it wet. Unless it's faulty!!!

If a parent wants parenting advice they usually ask for it.

You can rip the entire figure off the base and it will still work...

If a figure is ripped out of a box and an arm or something falls off then it would still work due to the base having the chip inside it, not the figure.

Yeah. If that minor amount of physical stress would break a figure's chip, none of mine would work at all, considering the amount of time they also spend being thrown around by a one-year-old baby. As fate would have it, he hasn't even broken an arm off of one yet, let alone a chip. That Eye-Brawl was almost undoubtedly broken inside of the package. Same thing happened to me when Lightning Rod was released.

Yeah, it was. Even worse was I texted my wife and told her to tell our daughter that if she was a good girl all day I'd have a big surprise for her when I got home! She darn near tackled me when I walked in the house, telling me she was a great girl and helped mommy do the laundry. Ugh, I hope they get more in soon!

Thanks, I'm hoping they get restocked fast!

I'm still very new to all the Skylanders stuff. I only found out about them with the release of the Giants game and started buying them for Christmas. I have been lurking on this site for a couple months now and it has been a great source of information. I did not know however that some of the figures might not work out of the box like this one.

I had a lot of luck on Graigslist getting most of the first series figures for a good price. And now thanks to this sight I was able to snag the Hot Dog 3 pack, Side Kicks, Thumpback, and Eye Brawl.

You have three choices now Moondrake:

  • Return the figure to the store stating the problem and ask for a replacement (when they restock)
  • Contact Activision and ask for a replacement for your non-scanning figure.
  • Do this as the RFID tag could be just too high for the reader.

You could always fiddle with the Portal and push up the RFID reader but that might be waaaay more trouble that it's worth.

And yes, the figure is just a toy, the only important bit is the RFID tag in the base. I've read stories of figures being dunked in the bath and still working. I've had some of mine go through Airport X-rays and still work.

Hahahaha! I have no idea why I thought this was so funny, but I did. Anyway, I'm surprised with the hate-filled responses here. I'm not a parent yet (wife is due April 10!), but I can't blame the dad for getting peeved when someone critiqued his parenting for no reason at all. This is a community of people who are all interested in collecting kids' toys, whether or not they have kids themselves. Only a guy WITHOUT kids would be so critical and nasty for little or no reason, so I'm with dad for telling him to f- off.

That's Beemo from the cartoon Adventure Time.

Did they really ask you to return the broken Eye-Brawl? If so that's strange because Activision does not require you to send the broken figure in for a replacement. All you have to do is go on the website and file a case saying it's broken and they mail you a new one.
