What is the consensus on leaving characters in packaging vs taking them out. Do you just keep variants in the box? Do you use them in the packaging? Did you buy two of everything, one to use and one to keep? I am having this dilemma as I have ripped them all open as a toy is not a toy unless it's played with. But wondering if they are going to be worth anything or if I should bother getting another set and keep them in the packaging.

Real men play Skylanders, at least that's what my mom tells me.

They are never going to be worth anymore than they are right now. Anyone who truly believes holding onto these for years that it's an investment is crazy. When the hype about it dies down, so will the demand.

Yeah, I'm major OCD - I have them all, every one of them, and most of the easy to find variants. My favorite is Quick Draw Rattle Shake!

What tGrimm said. I never see these holding value, especially with TFB making reposes. Buy if you like. Don't do it hoping to cash in, in 20 years.

I would tend to agree HOWEVER one can never really tell what will become a collectible in years to come.

I don't think Skylanders will be around in 20 years time, not in their present form anyway as 20 years is a long time in the world of technology. But some of these things have a strange way of getting a second wind and renewed interest so it's not impossible that someone holding onto mint condition, still in packet figurines could be sitting on a gold mine in years to come. Not saying it's likely because I don't think it is, but none of us commenting here can truly know for sure.

With the release of that Disney Infiniti the video game industry may swing in this direction more and these are the "Fathers" of that system.

The only way this will become super high valuable is if there is a Skylanders revival of sorts down the road.

I tend to agree with the consensus here, these probably won't rise in value.

However, I wish to note... I didn't end up opening my Sonic Boom, for long enough that it seemed like a funny quirky thing to continue not to. It was my only Air character, so I'd put it on the portal to open Elemental Gates while working on other characters, and it just went from there. I ended up levelling it up all the way and buying all the upgrades for it, and it's still in the package. Okay, carting it around, the package is a bit beat up now, not in collectable condition, but had I desired it, I could have omitted it from carrying around, it would be in fine condition AND have had plenty of gameplay (it doesn't get beat up sitting on the portal, after all).
