Okie, I don't really understand how one plays this game non stop and doesn't know how to upgrade, but well.
Go to Persephone's cabin. (If I hear Per-se-phone, ) Talk to her and select an upgrade. Upgrades enhance gameplay by adding strength to attacks, giving new combos, extra armor, or new attacks etc. Pressing back let's you see which ones you have.

When you got a character you go to that purple box with `upgrades`in it (-for the wii) so you can see all the upgrades, when you see one upgrade above and one down it means it's an upgrade for an path ( like tree Rex dash upgrades and laser upgrades) you can choose one of em

Hmm, well I can see where the shadiness of these posts are coming from considering you are forced to see Persephone (the magical upgrade fairy) in Chapter 2 of this game.
But it's no real big deal in the long run. Just remember that S1 figures can't do path switching like S2 figures (and lack the WowPow). |

Okay, so I'll try explaining this.
At some point in Skylanders: Giants, you will meet a fairy named Persephone who will give you upgrades in exchange for gold (money). When your Skylander has no upgrades you will only be limited to a few upgrades that you can buy. Once you buy all of those basic upgrades, you can choose which attacks you want to further upgrade. Take Cynder for example. The first few upgrades you can buy are Cynder Flight, Black Lightning, Double Spooky!, and Shadow Reach. After buying these basic upgrades you can choose from two upgrade paths: Nether Wielder will let you upgrade your lightning abilities, and Shadowdancer lets you upgrade your ghost and Shadow Dash attacks. You can only choose one upgrade path, so choose wisely. Each Skylander also has a Soul Gem. Soul Gems are hidden throughout the levels. Skylanders: Giants has 16 Soul Gems for the 16 new Skylanders. Skylanders: Spyro's Adventure (the first Skylanders game) had 32 for each of the 32 Skylanders that you can play as in that game. Finding your character's Soul Gem will allow you to buy an expensive but useful upgrade for that Skylander. All of the Skylanders from Spyro's Adventure can buy the Soul Gem upgrade without finding it, since their Soul Gem is not in that game. Series 2 Skylanders (remodels or remakes of Skylanders from Spyro's Adventure) have a special upgrade called a Wow Pow. This one is even more expensive than the Soul Gem upgrade, but gives a very powerful attack or very useful ability. Series 2 Skylanders can also change upgrade paths simply by talking to Persephone. If you have chosen an upgrade path, Persephone will ask you if you want to change your path. It doesn't cost any money and you will not lose your upgrades. |
