I haven't had a chance to fire the game up to answer the question of whether Employee Break appears as special or not, I'll keep you posted if nobody beats me to it.

I couldn't have spent that much for an Employee Break. I would have waited until it at least hit 200-300. Spending 700-1700 for one is insane, when they will drop in price in time.

If I ever find a variant I am putting it on eBay.

Yeah, I am so not a fan of scalpers ... but chase variants on the other hand, those are really for the collectors. They have inherent value, up and beyond being a figure. I don't consider selling them for a premium to be bad, given the intended rarity. I've seen many a normal rare figure (Wham Shell, etc) when it was hard to come by, and left them on the shelf for the kids (and unfortunately, the unscrupulous scalpers I suppose). I have a S2 Lightning Rod and S2 Stealth Elf on the way (I ordered them online, then found them at TRU and wanted them under the tree) - given that Wave 3 is still rare, I'm just going to return them to TRU and hope it makes some kid's day to find them out of the blue.

Me and my sons love to collect Skylanders, but there is no way I could do the chase variant thing - if I did it, I'd have to try and find them all and that would never go over with the wife. So if I do ever happen to find a chase variant (unlikely, people around here seem to know to look for them), off to Ebay I go ...

I do seem to recall a chase gold variant way back in the first game soon after it came out, even I didn't know what it was, I thought it was a defect.

Wow! Those look really cool! I agree, use the Prism Break in game.

When used in game Employee Break looks the same as Lightcore Prism Break, he does not show up as "special", he does not start at level 5 and he does not start with 2100 gold. In game he is identical to any lightcore Prism Break. I'm sure this has been documented but Glitter Hot Head shows as "special" and he does start at level 5 and 2100 gold.

I guess this means "Winter" Break is the Special variant, and this one, though showy, does not expand one's collection. I wonder why that decision was made. I'd have just stuck the Winter Break chip in this bad boy and called it a day, but evidently Activision had other plans.

as far as i am aware winter break doesn't look any different in game either ... unless of course you know differently ?

No, as I said Employee Break shows up as just another run of the mill Lightcore Prism Break. There is nothing special about it when used in the game. Winter Break is the special one.

ah, ok my bad. guess i only read what i was expecting to see no what was actually there. totally makes no sense at all not to have it show up at least the same way as winter break, that is if winter break shows up as special.

just keep looking buddy u will find them a paid £70 for sonic boom and only £49 for sprocket dont get me wrong i have paid £120 for hothead glitter sparkle variant too if my parnter finds out she will kill me lol that will be here next week really cant wait lol the boy im getting them from also has a employee prism break whish he wants £420 for but will be doin a deal with him for a new sky box and cash to get it off him will keep u posted if i get it and will put pics of hothead and the EPB up as soon as i get them. what al do ill keep my eyes open for u and let u know if i see any going cheap and send u the links if u want

^ change those prices to £ GBP and you are closer to current prices over here and even then a bit low

Sigh.... I started variant hunting during Spyro's Adventure and managed to nab all the Silver's and Gold's, but they kept on releasing them so I just sold off the ones I had and stopped. It's too much. I would love to own them all, but it ain't happening.

thats true t7gga and zook your completely right too yet before they released giants the promised there would be enough for everybody to get them and yet it seem to be a lie hate these people that are making a killing from these toys

It feels more rewarding to actually find these things. It also costs less.

Nice find. Only sparkle I'd like to have is Sonic Boom. I'm not too interested in Sprocket (Though if I saw her in the store I'd nab her)
Only chase variants I have is Crystal Cynder and GITD Zap. Didn't pay TOO much for them but more than I probably should have lol.

I'm still gonna try to get the Metallic Cynder, Sparkle Boom and Stone whirlwind.

I hate that these things are hard to find

If they were easy to find there wouldn't be any interest in them.

I too am in the same boat.
I have 2 true variants (GITD WreckingBall - Ebay - $40) (Stone Zook - Found at Walmart). I just can't see myself buying them when the prices are over $50. Still hunting but gave up on finding a steal on Evilbay.

I prefer the variants that have cosmetic in-game changes, like Granite Crusher, Dark Spyro, Punch Pop Fizz, or the Legendaries. But the chase variants are pretty cool, too! I just wouldn't go out of my way to find one.

Same, I prefer the In-game Variants, but for some reason I love to hunt down Variants. I've never bought a Skylander from eBay.

The only chase varient I have is rock whirlwind, and that's cuz tru.com decided to throw one in (probably as an apology for all the delays). It's pretty cool when you can find them, but I won't go out of my way to try. Kudos to those who do and succeed.

Now I really want a chase variant. On day 1 I opened at least 6 boxes and none had a rock skylander. Now I shall depend on trade to get any chase variants at all. I Refuse to go to evilbay!

I have only managed to get a hold of red :drillsargeant:GITD , GITD, and Punch. I must say though, that I was sad to see that the red Drill Sargeant did not count as a special character on Giants.
