But does defense decrease the damage you take from attacks like in normal games? And does attack increase your damage output? Those are the things I'd like to learn.

Every 3 points in defense gives you a +1% Chance to avoid a hit, defense dosen't reduce actual damage taken,it increases your avoidability.

The more elemental power you have, the more bonus damage you'll do in an Elemental Zone

Idk what attack does.

Speed is self-explanatory.

Attack is overall damage, it's why a figure with all Heroics done will always be more powerful than one without, critical hit also goes into it.

"Attack"!? I believe no Attack stat exists, unless there's one in the 3DS versions of the game that I don't know about.

The stats are Health Points, Defense, Elemental Power, Speed and Critical.
Health and Speed should be self-explanatory.
Defense increases the Skylander's chance to "block" an attack, avoiding its damage. (You can tell this has happened when a shield symbol appears above the skylander when it is hit by the attack, instead of a damage number.) Defense does not actually reduce the ammount of damage taken by attacks normally.
Elemental Power increases the extra damage done by a skylander's attacks in its own elemental zone, or in Battle Mode against a Skylander which is weak to your skylander's element.
Critical increases the chance for your skylander's attack to deal extra damage. (IE: chance to do a Critical Hit.)

For future reference, you can find most of this stuff out in-game by going to your Skylander's stats screen, highlighting a stat and pressing the button on your controller you'd use for talking to NPCs. (EG: C for the Wii version.)

Note that none of the stats directly increase the damage of your Skylander's attacks except for Elemental Power, but even then only in specific circumstances.

Elemental Power also affects the bonus damage done with the Luck-O-Tron Wheels of Power.

If for any reason you're not completely satisfied, I hate you.

Cool, someone understands elemental power is more than just a term, and I thought I was the only one. o.o;

Really? There are people that think the elemental zones are just for show? I can understand someone not knowing the elemental strength and weaknesses cycle, but elemental power is pretty obvious to notice when you have a heroic'd up Skylander who deals more bonus damage in an elemental zone the same figure without the elemental boosts. That's why when I grind the elemental damage in PvP, I wear the big fancy hat. +25 Elemental Damage. You find it in Hatterson's shop.
